Speaking of how many bits in a byte,

Remember, not too long ago, WGB's running-out-of-space crisis?

Not that text takes up too much memory, but you might want to consider linking to your blog instead of cutting and pasting them here, Chris.

Same goes with enormous pictures. Some of us here don't have the fastest internet connections, and posting a full screen cap of your browser means waiting and waiting.

Hey! I got two better ideas.

(1) He already has a link to his blog. If people are interested, they will go there to check it out. All nice and democratic. The way HE would want it, yeah?

(2)Tiger gives him a warning to post on topic and stop flooding the board with his nonsense posts. If he fails that, eject him HARD-style. He cam come back like a "Hydra" and respawn but it won't take long to see the pattern again.

This is only classic case of BLOG-jacking, I've ever seen.

Was der hahn ?!?!?

I agree with crash and pauline. If you go back a few pages and read my posts (it's easier if you just search for "Lithos"), I suggested that sort of thing to CB.

CB, I have nothing against you, but frankly your pushing it in that you feel the people of the WGB feel the need to know your resume, read your masses of modern poetry or want to know when you started listening to DMX. It suggests a massive, inflated ego yearning for stroking, and I'm more worried about your own image than mine. I'm sorry, but that's the impression I get.

We have 250 meg. Read the "Running out of Space" thread in Announcements. The first two pages, according to the little bar at the bottom of my browser, were well over 500 kilobytes, or
4000 kilobits each if you prefer - which is massive in anyone's terms, as far as forum posts are concerned. And yes, I am on dial up - though hopefully not for too much longer.

It's great that you write, but the WGB, as with all forums, is practically lawless (except for our excellent mod), and therefore relies on the goodwill of the people on it to make sure it runs smoothly.

It would be a shame, and no doubt would piss off many people, if some of the more popular topics that many people participated in got auto-archived simply because you felt we needed to read ten thousand or so words of your poetry, especially when you point out that they're already published in your many blogs. And you'd definitely attract the ire of more than some kid in Brisbane.

Your other on-topic posts are brilliant. They fit in nicely around here. And you'll note that I've said nothing bad about those posts.

I know, Chris, I'd like the WGB to have a full-blown sixteen-terabyte drive. Ok, I'd settle for a couple of RAID'd Seagates. Or, even better and more cybepunky, some light-based data storage crystal we nicked from Toshiba. But we've got we've got, and have to respect that.

Lithos - I can appreciate your interest in the lack of space issue. Seriously, if I were running out of space that dramatically, I would. Let me make you aware of a few things.

Since 2002, I have posted roughly 113 messages. 80 of those messages have been within the last 3 weeks or you'd have not noticed anything of mine at all.

Second, before I posted the attack of the killer blog, it was suggested, while I was posting CURRENT materials about CURRENT issues, that did in fact have to do with my relationship to the Gibson texts. (Try going back and reading the Psych Profile post - It clearly mentions that I used to own a BBS called SenseNet - affectionately after the Panther Modern Hack).

Most notably - My poetry related to Johnny Mnemonic and the actual NEWSPRINT article from the Buffalo News which may have actually inspired Robert Longo to get involved are in the NEUROMANCER section under Happy Birthday Johnny with absolutely no follow up whatsoever.

It is easy to become lost data in your 250 megabyte sea. So I have chosen rather than to go under the surface, to make my first splash.

Like it or hate it, it got some responses. Now you can judge me on what I continue with, and if you are interested in history, you can refer back.

And I will be cautious in judging anyone else around here, lest I end up with a red beam on my forehead. But then, those characters have always been lurking there in the background...And I feel safer in an open crowd than locked in a basement ready to face the farm's torture techs.

Christopher, there's some really good stuff in here, but the sheer quantity of stuff makes it impossible to read.

That's like saying the Ziggy Piggy was a possibility for anyone but Napolean in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Of course there's too much for 1 sitting...

I'm not going anywhere...

HK - Cool. I'm headed for the bittorrent files when the cable comes in next week...

So its Sunday and football's about to start. I guess everyone will get a bit of a break from me. I'm sure there are a few who will find it a bit of a relief. The teams as I said in the news thread are Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New England, and Atlanta and they are all over the papers today. See if you can avoid them...I'm looking forward to the 3 o'clock game today.

With the credit card under lock and key until about 2, I will only have a few minutes of broadband before the game starts. But then, that's a continuous connect, as I have dealt with in the past, and all I'll have to do is punch deck in instants to tally the scores. Who knows, I might even watch sports center on here. I don't know if that's possible yet or not but I know the latest winamp has a variety of TV stations built in....

Its more blotto than sattelite.

Well, looks like I missed that all important football game, to be wakened up by a call from my girlfriend who says we are going out tonight. She's got control of the wallet and I assume just about everything else, at least for the moment...

Atlanta Lost but New England won... 50/50 isn't bad. I suppose things can only pick up from here. The superbowl then is Philadelphia vs. New England and we're set for a match...

Just woke up and drove to the access point and I'm tuned to a pretty good launch cast.

Chris, did you manage to get that apartment you had hoped to get?

A homeless friend who was living with us for a couple of months managed to find a really great apartment and moved in to it 2 weeks ago.

Hope you've had the same good luck.

FP - Yes. As a matter of fact, I have moved into an apartment across town and I have the full network of Social Services and SSD backing me up. My rent is approx. 900 a month which is steep, but I usually have a couple hundred left over for fun and games.

I owe a lot to my girlfriend for sticking by me during the transition. I plan to move to a less expensive place in about 6 months, but the summer will be nice along the waters edge.

I hear they have great outdoor concerts and parks in the region but I haven't ventured out much on foot in the snow.

I've actually been spending some time getting re-acquainted with my parents from an independent perspective. I think they are looking at me in a little more responsible light lately and that is good. I see them for dinners and on Friday nights.

Thanks for the supportive remarks!

PS - I've recently updated the homepage to include all of my work in a more "co-ordinated" fashion with the Music on the Left and the Poetry on the right.

Here's the page... www.ncpink.com

Thanks!

Well, I'm almost out of here for the day. Things have been pretty productive, and I am happy I have discovered a few new friends and had some opportunities to do a little good. Today I took out the trash and wiped down the tables at the cafe' and it gave me kind of a good feeling knowing that I could help out the cook.

Have a great afternoon everyone...

Ah, using the PC from home is such a beautiful thing. No more day tripping for me, its on into the nighttime hours.

There's a knicks game playing in the front room and people are milling around getting ready for dinner. It's so comfortable here...

Pretty soon it will be time for that break for the o so wonderful nicotine opiate.

Ah - The Chicago Days...

quote:
One night I went shopping for records with a friend named Dan whose main interest was making Art out of plexiglass and craypaper. He said he was selling these statuettes for like 800 dollars a pop in his circles. It was unbelieveable to me. He was good at stealing CD's from Columbia house by having them delivered to a non-existant fifth floor. Strangely enough he actually bought a couple when we were in the Wax Trax shop. I spent some amazing time there chatting with a clerk with noserings and dread locks, and bought Consolidated, Front Line Assembly, and Meat Beat Manifesto discs. Coming back we wandered through some T-Shirt tourist rock shop type places, and I bought a NIN t-shirt. One of the original black puffy ones. They don't last too well in the washer.

Well, it's almost time for bed. Thought I'd give it one last go before bedtime. I did some interesting things today. Worked out, worked on the website www.ncpink.com . Worked on some cleaning, took out the trash twice, and did some cleaned some tables and swept a floor. Pretty cool stuff actually. Actual reality has its rewards I am beginning to discover. Oh, and I taught a little Algebra to boot, and have had some great help remembering some things about it from from some great people here. So Without much ado, Goodnight, goodbye, farewell, and see you at 9 AM.

Don't let the bed bugs bite.
