Just wondering what all of you like when you want a little drink to unwind yourselves (those of you who do drink, anyway). I assume everyone here not only drinks, but are stinking, penniless, beligerent alcoholics; come on, William Gibson is the drinkin man's SF author!

I like a fine Malt Liquor myself, such as Mickey's , Country Club, or Olde English, preferably in the "Gentleman's Size" 40oz bottle.

you?

Whiskey and coke. Yeah, I'm simple like that. Or give me a glass of Bailey's or chocolate liquor... Good stuff.

JD and ice, or JD and Coke, altho I'm trying to find a coke-like alternative that reacts better to the JD.

Sapphire and tonic.

It's just a shame that you can't find tonic that stays fresh for very long, while drinking at home. Otherwise you have to drink a whole bottle of it in one night, which is an option, but not always the best one. I would just like to have a drink or two, and drink the rest later without it going flat. But I've never had tonic that does that. I haven't done much research into it, but I suppose it's all like that.

I'm a beer man myself. I prefer Sam Adams or Newcastle at home, with dinner, or while watching the game. But when I'm out with friends we usually stick to the cheap piss that is major American beers, because most of our tolerences for alcohol are so high that it takes a lot of beer to get the job done. Two 18 packs of MGD is about half the price of the 3 12 packs of Newcastle it would take to satisfy my two main drinking buddies and I.

now, if you'll excuse me, I have some death to defy.

therealitystudio - sounds like you need a soda syphon, my man!

OK, I like beer, but my preferences in that area are more than adequately documented in the Beer Thread.

Besides that, good scotch when I can get it. Light red wines are the main wine I like, but a good burgundy or cabernet sauvignon with a roast beef dinner or steak is nice, and there are some good whites for just quaffing on the verandah in summer.

I also have no compunction ordering frilly, fancy (OK, let's face it, girly) drinks when I feel like them - just last night I had a large blue margarita in public.

I quite enjoy making my own mixed drinks too, blending something like mandarin Absolut, Bacardi and fruit juices or daquiri mixes...

Coke is too sweet as a mixer for me with bourbon or whatever - I don't mind sweet stuff, but how Southern Comfort and Coke became a biker's drink I'll never understand. Dry ginger ale is a much better mixer for whatever whisk(e)y-type drink, IMO - if you're mixing. Straight up is great for a really good scotch - those lovely smokey peaty Islay malts...

Scotch and Coke was one of the first mixed drinks I ever asked for, based solely on the Beatles' predilection for it back in the early sixties. Only ever drank it a couple of times -- extremely nasty.

Heard a tacky yet funny joke on the toob last night:

I like my whiskey like I like my women; twelve years old and mixed up with a little coke.

Back when I drank, my drink of choice was a Cuba Libre. Now I
don't really drink, although I'll have roughly three glasses of
wine/year at various special dinners.

There's just so many. Lately I've been much taken with Shochu.
Also - Single Malt Scotch - Laphroaig - more winter time than summer.
Patron Tequila with Lime and salt, been tempted to try making some sangrita to go with it.
Stella Artois
A good home made Tom Collins on a hot day
Caipirinha again on a hot day
Hangar 1 Vodka

Mmm, I agree, far too many. Alcoholic drinks are such a varied, delectable experience. A few choice personal favourites:

1)Sake. Number one in my life.
2)So many wines to choose from, but a good Australian red at the mo. They're so much more interesting than the French wines.
3)Any summer cocktail, with a lovely woman to drink it with.
4)Cold pint of Hoegaarden.
5)Irish Coffee

Have some for me everyone Smile

Ah Vegetable Juices! Ah Clam Juice! It's like a cheap, instant-gratification version of gazpatcho.

What is this "Beefamato"? It sounds sublime.

I'm a big fan of red wine, except in the summer here, when I'll use it to make sangria. Other summer favorites include mojitos (only if made well, and they're hella easy to make bad), and gin or vodka tonics. White wine if there's nothing else. Beer anytime of the day or year. (Mmmm...beer for breakfast.) A nice amber or stout, if you please. During the winter, I'm a voracious scotch drinker, which has led to a habit amongst my friends and family of buying me a nice bottle for Christmas. Delightful. I'm getting away from the Highland malts, lately preferring Speyside, Lowland, or (in a pinch) Islay malts instead.

I've retired from professional tippler status since I quit being a semi-professional musician, so these days I average about ten drinks a week or less. In the Bad Old Days, my favorite drink was All Of It, also known as Whatever You're Having. Haven't been able to touch Tequila since I drank 30 or so shots of it during the horrifying debacle that was my 21st birthday party.
