Hey Boog, have you heared the belgian death metal band Aborted, yet? They'd be right up your alley.

I wish I could get instrumental versions of Aborted's songs. That vocal style is hit-or-miss for me. I like everything else, though.

Gojira is french? I didn't even know that. More french stuff, while we're at it: - The Old Dead Tree (dark metal i guess, bit of doom and death influence in there) - Dagoba (mixed bag, some thrash, some more modern influences too, pretty good though; i saw them open for Nevermore last year) Yeah, the french. Don't know what got into em all of the sudden. Most of these bands are fairly new. Their metal scene just went "BOOOM" all of the sudden. |

Little bit of Aussie metal to balance things up a bit (but wanderer has already suggested why there's not a huge amount of Aussie metal to post):
Virgin Black - Our Wings Are Burning (would fit in the 'don't like metal' thread too) Mortification - Scrolls of the Megilloth ________________________ differently mediated |

Speaking of Aussie Metal, I forgot these guys when I was writing about my first metal..

Here's something I've been wondering for awhile. Is there any such thing as a metal band that writes really short songs? Like 2 minutes or less? It seems like most metal bands like to play longish songs, but I would be really interested in hearing very short metal songs.

I'm not really aware of any, but that's a punk trademark, so looking at the metalcore/crossover stuff would be the most likely place to find some.

Just go into Cool Edit or Garage Band or whatnot and chop the songs up into 2 minute pieces.

Eminently practical. Give me a minute...

Here ya go: Opeth's 'Master's Apprentices' in under 2 minutes. All the big riffage, none of the prog-rock noodling. This could catch on!

Try bands in the Grindcore field. But I think few people would call that songs |
