The Dead says from behind flame-proof armor! Seriously, why does anyone think that WG will start blogging again? Did he say it somewhere and I missed it?

Now that I've thoroughly pissed lots of people off, my answer is Jan 5 2006, 2:15 PM.

We are pinning all our hopes on one vague comment in the last blog:

quote:
Perhaps I'll be back, one day, somewhere on the far side of whatever it is I'm about to start writing.

Hmm, I wonder if it is entirely a coincidence that the blog stopped the day after 9/11 (and the associated heated discussions).

no offence to Bill, but he isn't needed.
I'm not normally a fan of French literary theorist, but I do have a lot of respect for Roland Barthes and the whole Death of an Author thing - namely, the last person you should ever ask about a book is the person who wrote it.

they have the internet on computers now?

BTW - how much is that Douglas Coupland first edition worth, cause I have it somewhere in my flat?

Well I have to admit that I kindled the speculations because of Tiger68's comment here:

"Have a very Happy Holiday season, everyone.
I know we all want new WG blogs for Christmas, or at least as a New Year's gift. Stay tuned... there's always hope. "

To Chatsubo: If you want to know the going rate for a first edition of a book check out the completed auctions in Ebay or the used book market at Amazon.

Tip to buyers. The used book market at Amazon is often cheaper than Ebay.

Thanks to José for pointing out the one year anniversary of the blog.

"Never" is a perfectly valid contest entry. Of course if you win you will receive the grand prize on the same date as your contest entry - never!

Apologies if my comment was taken as a hint. I only meant it as kind of a generic, end-of-year happy-wish [like for world peace]. Read nothing significant into it.

T68, you are most welcome to participate in the competition.

If you should happen to win, everyone can complain that it was rigged.

I just love a good scandal on the WGB!

Or perhaps another sub-contest would be >why< he would post again, aside from the obvious "hey, new book almost out". Guess something like the Mars rover finding something really interesting or such would prompt him to comment it here, with the gibsonistas [or what the term ended up being, I forgot?)

Derailing, threadjacking is sweet...

I havn't posted a guess, because I've been trying to come up with a methodology for making a guess.

I've decided that astrology is as good a way of making a guess as any other, but I have utterly failed to do any sort of research that would help me do the calculations *correctly*. (to the extent that astrology can be "correct")

I'll get back to you later.

Well, now that my date has passed and gone, I have a few days left when my bet is still the closest one. Now I can sleep soundly, with no worries about the closeness of the date. And I still feel my proposal was the best, mathematically.

Yes José,

It is still too early to call you a *loser* Smile

It would be nice if Tiger's right - I'm guessing he meant February 3rd and not March 2nd
(it certainly looks nice with his choice of 2,3,4 and 1,2,3,4)

If you really want to have a chance of winning this contest, you must have the same nerve as the winning bidders on Ebay, and place your bid late in the game. For example a group of people (nudge nudge) could make Tiger lose simply by having one bid one minute before his time and another one minute after his time. It would demand real precision of Mr. Gibson to blog at the exact minute if he wanted Tiger to win.

My guess for Mr Gibson's return is

the 27th of June 2004...

I don't know about times though, I mean does that matter?

I will say for now though the time will be
4:37 p.m on the above date.
