a bit of reverse bargain hunting:
out of the blue a guy contacted me,
wanting to buy a 10" record in my
collection (a lot of my collection
is catalogued on discogs.com).
for €20!
and i, who wasn't overly attached
to the record, sold it.

so with 20 fresh € in my account,
i visited ebay. what do you know,
a record i've been searching for was
available for £0.99.

with shipping, it came to £2.99.

and i still have almost €16.00 left...

re: pointing out the best-before date.
i work at a Video Rental store. We get huge shipments of candy, pop, and chips. Snacky things. Once a week we go through the chips and pull the "old" ones. They're still fine, so we put them in a drawer and eat them ourselves. Wink
Other than that... I spent $20 on groceries for two people last week, everything we needed. (mostly) No namebrands. Except for the Stoned Wheat Thins, because there isn't a Superstore (Real Canadian Superstore, Razz) knock-off yet.

stopped at supermarket on way home last night, i can't help but look at the reduced to clear section every time i'm in.
last night they had dozens of packets of dried blueberries. reduced from £2 to 8p. i got 3 bags! so thats £6 worth for 24p.
i spotted a bag of cashew nuts flavoured with sea salt and black pepper. which was full price. but given the saving i just got, i got a bag of those. and last night i sat and ate blueberries with salt and peper cashew nuts, while drinking jasmine tea. wonderful.

it's always sooo much better when it's a bargain.

one thing i found strange in the UK (at the co-op in lerwick) was that they even had beer reduced by heaps. over here you don't buy grog in the supermarket anyway, but i managed to pick up a four pack of something (tennants? i wouldn't know) for about half price because the cardboard around em was ripped.

oh i love rifling through the super reduced stuff.

yeah they sell stuff off if the packaging is damaged. folk will always avoid it anyway at full price.
one thing you do need to watch is when something is on special sometimes they reduce it cause its near sell by date, but you would still be better going and buying them full price on special than at the reduced price!

it was the fact that you could buy beer at something close to cost that got me.

The other night I made my first ever bid for an item on eBay. A$55 for a Scala Rider Bluetooth setup.

Turns out I won, and ended up getting it for A$51 plus postage.

This gizmo is a Bluetooth arrangement that fits in a motorcycle helmet, and should let me make and receive phonecalls when I'm on the bike.

Recommended retail is supposed to be A$299. I'm sure that's inflated, but the over-the-counter price in the US is around the US$150 mark. So it's not a bad pickup, assuming the seller does the right thing and puts it in the mail pronto. Smile

Dude, you're gonna love Half-life... matter of fact, I'm tempted to dig it out now and play it (for about the 5th time) myself.

on a whim i stopped in at the tool shop down the street from work. (as i'm sometimes fond of doing when i'm off work and the sun's shining.)

picked up two centre punches (large and small), a 3/8 cold chisel, two pair of cutting glasses and a new combination square.

total cost just over thirteen bucks.
