There was a market in the UK some 10 years back. The pikies would buy them at upto £4 each. Could be nice, if you knew the right people.

Anyways, the work caretakers happy they've gone, the lorry drivers happy their no longer his problem and my fathers happy to have them. Me, I get fresh free range eggs every weekend Smile

Has anyone written a book about the life of a pallet? I should like to follow one around for a few years. It would be interesting to document.

Ah, the mysteeeeerious packing pallet. Made from the sappy wood of the Packing Pine, tack together with the finest zinc-plated cleats.

The wood is semi-sentient, for it knows when its useful lifespan is up, and allows itself to dry up, releasing the cleats from their cellulose bonds to allow easily disassembly of the pallet, and onto its new life of firewood, or paper pulp.

I bought a small (very slightly used) trampoline for $12.50 today.

My son needs to use a trampoline for his vision therapy home exercises, and although we bought one several years ago, we let him use it outside and several of the rubber feet have disappeared, it's terribly rusted, etc.

So I was tickled pink to find one so cheap on the internet (www.dba.dk) and luckily it was located only 3 miles from our house!

Had lots of good shopping mojo today. Bought a pair of slippers and a snow suit for my 8-year old son as well - he's so tall and skinny that he needs an age 12 sized snow suit and that's the biggest size they make, and very few places stock them. So lucky that there was one in a local store that fit him and that he liked. Also bought new shoes for the youngest - but they were no bargain (80 dollars for toddler shoes!)

I need a new fucking mobile phone.

God, you know, it's one of those ten points for the idea, minus a fucking million for the execution.

Two books for 30p each at the local library on Monday. Even better, they have personal messages in to the original surf traveller/owner.

My sister made me do it ("It's not like you have plenty of money or anything: be a cheapskate")

Finnair broke my cute wheeled luggage-- and for once I had the time to complain at the airport AND go to get a new one for free in a Helsinki Department Store with the document they gave me: Delsey an'all.

Non-bargain: Yahoo at 31 dollars a share. Who the hell "Yahoos" anymore?

When Microsoft, or Google, or whoever does something like this, I kind of feel like they're down to that one corner of toast, and they are sponging up the tiny egg yolk residue on the plate with it.

The big Books Etc in Shepherd's Bush (West London) is shutting down, and will be gone by the 23rd. It's very sudden, and none of the staff were willing to say why.

I'm sad about the bookshop's demise, but that didn't stop me picking over the corpse: a lot of things are half price, and I got this for £4.99, and quite a few other things much cheaper.

I went to a library book sale on Sunday, when it was 3 dollars a bag, but everything was gone.

I'm heart broken about it.. Its our only damned book shop, even if it was a bit small and didn't have the greatest selection.

This has also just reminded me I bought Krad a book at half price..

You another Bush Dweller??

I expect their lease was up, that they are expecting to have a store in the new shopping centre (who's going to visit West 12 when Westfields opens) and they couldn't be bothered with the costs of an 8 month lease, particularly with the Tube station opposite shut.

I asked if they were going to be in the new shopping centre, and they said no. It's all very odd, and bloody irritating too, because (as you say, mrsk), it's the only bookshop there.

I complained about the tube station closing at 5 mins notice (for all the good it did), and I think I might email Books Etc to ask why they've pulled out.

I'm not a Bush dweller, mrsk, but I'm not far, and I walk through the Bush four times a day taking my kid to and from school.
