The problem is that I am applying to a class that is taught in Sweden. Also, from experience, the textbooks I have used in school previously were never that good or outdated. I need something a little more comprehensive. The web is alright, but it's too scattered and I need the discipline of going through the problems. Lots and lots of problems.

there's also an algebra edition.

ten dollars plus shipping and handling.

i can't speak for these books because i've never even looked at one. anyone want to comment on Dummies books in general? the reviews at amazon hail it as a masterpiece companion for highschool/college students.

IMO there's no real substitute for a human, particularly if you're learning the stuff for the first time, rather than revisiting it. Is there someone you can buy beer for who will at least check yuor answers and make suggestions? As for a book, starting with a good high school one (check with a few teachers locally) and working up is a good idea...

And re: the gitfiddle. What S/C said: buy a Tele. That said, you could consider drop tuning it down to D; it just might take enough tension off for it to stay in tune two or three songs longer.

I did this with my Tele Deluxe, which was chopped for a strat tremolo a long time ago, and it didn't help a lot. There are many other options besides a Tele, though! Smile

Or, you could be a complete Phillistine and put some kinda new-fangled high-tech Floyd Rose trem in it... (grinning, ducking and running)

Alternatively, you could bolt an old Chevy big-block V8 to the top of your guitar, make love to your neighbor's sheep, or commit any number of other sick, twisted sins.

New guitar soon, though. Floyd Rose here I come. Those things are fun. I've already got a fixed bridge - my strat stays in tune as long as I don't use the whammy (and I'm from the more "diiiiiiiiiiive booooooomb" school of whammy).

Oh dear. The guitar gods are angry. Bravus is a bad influence.

Yup. You're definitely from Seattle.

I'd imagine most everyone here knows more about this than me.

I just started trying to use BitTorrent for the first time. Where's a good torrent tracker?

I'm clueless, but I asked around in the right places and got:

lokitorrent.com

elitetorrent.org (with the comment 'good luck getting an account on elite')

firefiles.org

I also got the comment: "all the good sites got scared and closed up shop after the first raid against BT sites, fucking pussies" Wink

If all you're doing is looking for TV shows you forgot to record and such, tvtorrents.com (the plural is important!) is also pretty good. But I probably like lokitorrent.com the best of all of them...

"all the good sites got scared and closed up shop after the first raid against BT sites, fucking pussies"

ain't that the truth. now is not a great time to be learning about using torrents. or disclosing to the public which sites are still functioning... Wink

FP, if you'd do me the favor of indulging a simple straightforward medical question. You had in passing mentioned "Mianserin ( Bolvidon, Norval, Tolvan )" as a sleep aid. I am, at times, in need of such a non-addictive, sedating, tetracyclic, such as this, but after doing a good amount of research (including consulting my doctor) we could only find European references and most specificly, UK ones.
Do you know if it availible in the US and what name I might find it under?
Thank you.

Mianserin is unfortunately not available in the US, as it is not FDA approved, and I doubt that it will be anytime soon.

Here's an article which explains why:
http://www.psychiatrictimes.com/p970658.html

The biggest problem with approval of Mianserin for the US market is that it's off-patent. Any lab can whip up a batch of the stuff and sell it cheap. So there is no company that would have any motivation to go through the loops and hurdles to get the drug approved in the US, and since there's not a national health system, there's really nobody's who's interested in offering a cheap effective drug.
Not when there's money to be made.

If your doctor is willing to prescribe it, it is available for purchase online here:
http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s41979-s-TOLVON.aspx

10 mg is all you'd need, and 90 tablets should last you for more than a year, as you shouldn't be needing to use them all of the time. And how much would this cost to keep you sleeping well - $40.00. No wonder it won't be approved any time soon in the US.

WGB legal question:
Does anyone know if California state law requires a tenent to give 30 day notice of departure (or any # of days advance notice) if it is not explicitly written into the rental agreement?
Thank you.
(The best free info I could find was here.)

[edit]Found my own anwser after further research, I will delete this post in less than 24 hours[/edit] sorry.

[re-edit]In light of CKC's post below, it makes sense and I will leave this post intact.[/re-edit]

quote:
In addition, the amount of advance written notice that you give the landlord before you move out of the rental unit must be the same as the length of time between rent payments. For example, in a month-to-month rental agreement, you must give the landlord at least 30 days' advance written notice in order to end the rental agreement (see Tenant's notice to end a periodic tenancy). If you have a week-to-week rental agreement, you must give the landlord at least seven days' advance written notice in order to end the rental agreement.

why delete it?

someone may be able to use this information sometime in the future.

you should leave it with a link to where you got it. perhaps, if not your original question, a different one may be answered.

Sorry, SC. You Seattlian's did a good job pf killing hair metal, but down here the echoes are still rattling off our heads...

Would you still hate me if I compromised and got a Wilkinson Convertible? I'm too fond now of rest my hand on the bridge while I play and Floyd's pull sharp. You're lucky it's illegal for them to make ashtray covers for Floyds...
