Black pants, black short sleeved button up shirt (made out of some kinda stretchy nano mesh fiber, super comfy), dark blue boxer briefs, my fun black flip flops i got last summr on vacation from a rural walmart. they are really weird, the sole is normal except for the top layer which is made of plastic spaghetti like stuff which felt really weird to walk on when i first got them but now is compresed to the shape of my feet and is just about the most comfortable footwear i've ever owned. as an added bonus they seem to dry out unusually quick if i happen to wander through a puddle, and unlike regular flip flops when wet, they don't get all slick and turn into missles either.

The sorority chicks on campus all rock those ridiculous flipflops with 3" thick foamcore soles. Gross. They make the daintiest pixie-waif look like she's got elepantiasis of the sole of the foot. Controversely, I've been seeing a lot of girls with tight jeans and strappy sandals with a micro-thin sole and HUGE spike heel. That, O my friends and neighbors, is hot.

Of course, most of the time when I see girls dressed provocatively on campus, I get grossed out cos they're so young. And I have no Humbert Humbert complex, so. Nymphets just make me nervous about their wellbeing.

I usually wear Dickies (long or short) or Levis (501s...and I'm about to switch to NoSweat at my next jeans-purchasing extravaganza) with Fruit of the Loom blank T shirts. Pants rolled to mid-calf, if I'm going to be riding anywhere. My back and grey Shimano bike shoes, or Puma Anjans, navy/red. Generic "Pittsburgh" ballcap (usually just when I'm actually on the bike). Timbuk2 mess bag, black. Fox Alpine gloves. Chewing on a plastic coffee stirrer. No jewelry except wedding ring.

I have absolutely no idea what is cool and what is not, but short asymmetric skirts in basic CP coloring are hot here.

I am wearing an olive green corduroy jacket, beige corduroy pants, black Clarks loafers, a beige and red flannel shirt, my typical limited jewelry, including a Maurice Lacroix watch in my right wrist, some black underwear and black socks. But I will be naked in five minutes after I post this.

M, I thought you were older, but Boogerhead would never lie to us...

Iceland?!? One of the few places on Earth I actually plan on visiting by aeroplane one day; right up there with Norway at the top of my list.

May I presume to ask why you're going?

well, i did that whole marrying thing back in september, so it's about damn time we did the honeymoon thing. i dig cold places and it's a bit more hospitable than greenland (which he vetoed).

we actually scheduled it for winter and during a new moon in hopes of getting snow and aurora. at this point, i think we'll be lucky to catch either, but i watch the weather and spaceweather forecasts religiously.

I have a couple of friends in both Iceland and Greenland via a Formula 1 board I frequent. I'd really like to visit both places too.

Seattle is, thankfully, a pretty fashion-relaxed town. That said, there are some definite trends in various subcultures.

Among some youngish, hipster boys (I shan't say 'men'), there's kind of a 1950's prep-school boy thing going. Wooly sweater, preferably incorporating brown and orange, worn with a wooly scarf wrapped about the neck. Sometimes the sweater is substituted for with a corduroy or wool sportcoat, usually with elbow patches. Shoes are the usual Seattle bowling shoe/athletic shoe hybrids. It just screams 'affectation' IMO.

Among youngish Asian ladies, it's skirt season. Usually in black and often asymmetrical, ending somewhere around the knee, worn without stockings. Sometimes with a wavy kind of fringe. Worn with black 3/4 length coat and blouse in white, gray or black. If the skirt is not asymmetrical, then it is slit quite far up to the thighs. Hubba hubba.

Among gits, errrr, I mean, men, there is also a new hat trend: driving caps worn backward. Dumbest fucking thing I've seen in a generation. Few things disgust me more than watching a man stand on the sidewalk in the rain with water running down his face, wearing his hat backward. TURN IT AROUND, YOU ASSHOLE! TURN IT AROUND!!!!!!!

As far as me, today: Black wool DKNY suit, three-button coat and pleated slacks Wink . Black cotton/poly shirt, tie of bright orange silk with thin diagonal black stripes, black Clark's dress shoes with high shine. There was a need to be dapper.

Hmm... trends. I've always been out of the social loop, but I'll do my best to analyze local fashion for you.

Currently popular is a light blue cotton button down shirt with dark blue wool pants. For bad weather, a heavy, black wool parka is the standard, although you see a few greatcoats around. On casual Friday, loose-fitting clothing in subdued green, brown and tan is common. Footwear is either leather dress shoes or boots.

On weekends out on the town, the standard t-shirt and jeans are the most common, with accessories depending on where you are going. Leather bomber or motorcycle jackets are popular for men, but north face all-weather jackets and long-sleeve flannel are popular as well. Texans may or may not wear a cowboy hat/boots depending on how drunk they're planning on getting.

I gave up on trying to figure out female fashion years ago.

Jeans (Wranglers, NoSweat doesn't fit me, damnit),
black band t-shirt, previously-loved henley, beat
up grey hoodie, smartwool socks, and currently no
footwear, although I mostly stick with my boots in
the winter. Sometimes skaters when I'm in a hurry
or know I'll need to slip them off quickly in the
near future. No jewelry of any sort.

Oh, and my outer layer is a gore-tex shell. That
thing is amazing.

Girls (some who should know better: 30-year old hipster journalists, I'm looking at you) here still cling tenaciously to the low pants/cropped shirt combo, no matter what the body shape or outdoor conditions.

I'm wearing yellow pajamas with cats on them and a grey cardigan. Slipper socks with monkeys on them. For most of the day, I've also been wearing a duvet. And a bed.

My usual clothing consists of hiking sneakers, white socks, jeans or khakis, and a dark-colored t-shirt with no logos or writing on it. Accesories include my iPod, Timbuk2 mess bag, cell-phone, and watch. In winter I'll add a sweater and/or my trenchcoat.

Trends here in south Texas run toward the rapper-style outfits for guys, with emphasis on the sports jerseys and jewelry. For girls it seems to be tight tops and low-cut jeans/high skirts.

Add a 20 buck Cardinal watch from Zellers that I kid myself looks more expensive (it has a black face!!), a plain white gold wedding band and a white gold necklace to my daily ensemble. I tend to toy with the necklace during conversations, although that's neither as girly nor as sexy as it may sound.

Gas mask and a speedo. I win.

Marsh: why do the NoSweat jeans not fit you? Too tight? Too loose? (Lautrec? Sorry.) I'm planning on ordering some online in the near future since no one retails them around here, and not having had the chance to try them on, I'd hate to get them and not be able to wear them.
