Also have to worry about possibly rhyming to head off future teasing.

Fatty Patty etc.

I quite like Angus as a boy, but could see kids knocking off the g as a source of teasing fodder.

My sister was actually worried about our daughter having the initials AKC as a source of teasing. I figured it'd be a rare kid indeed that would pull out the American Kennel Club to knock you down a notch or two.

Awesome thread.. one of our friends also agrees that the "lets name the baby stupid things" game is the best fun, and as she also said.. you never know when something we actually like will appear!! (because nothing else has yet!)

Ah, Psyhophant, you have found one of the problems we are facing.. the "great name but god, we hate what the shortened version is".. Harry, unfortunately, quickly ruled out Harrison for a boy (hey, star wars AND indiana jones reference in that one! Perfect name, no?!)

Can I just say one more time, NO MORE STAR WARS NAMES *laughing* Though, I do work with Leia!!

Having endured Peein' Ian throughout grade school, I can tell you what not to name your child, if it's a boy.

my sister avoided the shortening problem. she gave her kids the short name straight off.
my nephew - ben.
my niece - zoe.

sure you could probably play with ben, but it is limited by being the short version.

My brother named his first-born Josephine, or Josie for short, which was his cat's name as a child. My cat was called Wallis/Wallace (I'm sure I explained this before).

All names beginning with J are out, and the last initial is T, so you have to bear that in mind when looking at all the initials put together.

I adore names with Xs and Zs in them. That is all. I don't know why I am keeping my ideal childrens' names to myself since I have no plans to procreate as of yet.

i was talking about your benny, benjy, benjamin, the variations of the singular.

when it comes to insulting a child, if you think a kid is going to escape getting shit just because the name doesn't lend to it then you are naive. lets face it, kids are hard, there are always going to be certain levels of encounters where someone will come up with something to abuse them with.

Call me attached to old' school biblical names but for a girl, Sarah or Rachael is always classic. Perhaps Sofia.

My fav name for a boy is Jace. I actually knew a guy at uni with Jace as his given name, not Jason.

Re; steven. Krad decided this was a good name.. until I pointed out we know so many Stevens already that they all have to have nicknames.. a baby steven would just confuse issues!! Its a good artistic name he decided.. And ofcourse there is also Stephen Fry..

We went with Irish first names (because of my family) and Japanese middle names (because of my wife's family). So our daughter has a slight burden, but I think it is not insurmountable. Her first name has an invisible 'h' in it, which she kind of digs at the moment.

Sebastian is kinda cool. And I've always had a soft spot for Moira, even though my wife hates it.
