First of all an early Happy Birthday to Green Robot!

I think it could be fun to post how we celebrated our own 20th birthdays.

I'll go first...

Early happy BD GR Smile

I think there is probably a very very good reason I have no recollection of my 20th birthday *l*

To celebrate my 20th birthday I ended up having a nonstop weekend of fun. It started by going to a birthday party held by one of my old college friends in Madison. I was living with my parents for the summer in the village where I grew up, and got a ride with a friend to Madison on Friday night and had packed a small weekend bag. I had made arrangements with another college friend to take the Greyhound on Saturday to attend the Chicago Blues Fest, without having any plans of where to sleep on Saturday night (or for that sake Friday night).

After a couple of hours at the party, one of my friends and I decide to leave and go get something to eat. We see my physics TA on the street and I convince him to come to Ellas Deli with us to eat French Fries, then I convince him to go to the party with us, then I convince him to leave the party with me, and then after a whole semester of sexual tension I finally get to kiss him and get my hand down his pants!
(I was the image of restraint the whole semester - he had no idea I had the hots for him - and I didn't make want to make a move until the semester was done and grades were given out). In the very early hours of the morning we went to his place and I get to experience the very floral rose wallpaper in his rented room. It was the start of a 2-year long relationship.

Having gotten no sleep that night, I meet up with my friend around noon and we take the bus to Chicago. When we arrive at the Blues Festival we find out there are incredibly long lines to buy beer at ridiculously high prices, but yet we see people with coolers overflowing with cheap beer. We end up asking some guys if we can buy beer from them, and they let us drink their beer for free. After enjoying the music for a couple of hours the festival closes down for the night, and when the guys find out we have no place to sleep they entertain us for the night by taking us to the Billy Goat Cafe, followed by bowling at 3 am, followed by going to one of their buddies house for a cheese omelet at 5 am. We all take a nap in Grant Park and take the bus back to Madison. I think I had arranged for my parents to pick me up at the bus station, but my memory is hazy on that point.

In any case it was one hell-of-a 20th birthday celebration!

I can best sum up that weekend as follows:

I was 20 years old, drunk, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's hands were on my breasts.

My birthday is on Xmas, so celebrations tend to get mixed in. I remember about two weeks before my 20th though, I spent time with a high school sweetheart while we were both home on winter break. The snow conveniently kept her from driving home. A few days later my friends and I drove to Niagara Falls for legal drinking, gambling, and strippers.

It may have been my 19th, but I think it was my 20th birthday...I spent the day before, day of and day after continuously slightly buzzed on Grand Marnier sur glace, danced my ass off three nights in a row (my usual anyway), slept most of the day and hung out with my friends.

It was a good birthday.

Neither do I. I'm sure it seemed important at the time, just like the next big one coming for me in 2011 will seem.

I remember a birthday somewhere around #8 because of a particularly handsome gift, #24 because of a particularly horrible gift, #33 because of very unusual location and events of the day, and #34 because it was just a couple weeks ago. Other than those, I don't remember any of them.

Happy birthday, GR!

As someone who started trying to forget they were aging at 12, I purposely have no memory of 20 or any other birthday. I take the day week off and go as far away from anyone who might try and talk to me about said event as possible.

On the flip side, I'm more than happy to celebrate anyone else's birthday, so Happy Birthday, GR! Sounds like you're having a blast already! Smile

Joyeux Anniversaire, Greenest of Robots!

My XXth was a comparatively uneventful affair, except its staging: at a pub in Limerick. Stands out for another reason -- I'm the never-sick type, and I was outrageously ill. I could taste not the deliciousness served.

XXI went better. Sailed to Belvedere, Marin County, slowing to examine all the bay's secret micro islands. Had I been alone, I'd have trekked them.

Quite sad actually because I remember perfectly, no matter the huge amounts of alcohol consumed (back then the legal drinking age was 14!).

That was my year of being strangely popular, and my summer crush (the long distance relationship would end two months later) was half a country away, so first I had a party with my old friends (all male) which consisted on getting drunk, pining because she was away, and they getting drunk because they had nobody to pine for. Then I had another party with my geek friends (curiously enough, mixed gender), which included gaming while drunk, editing a fanzine while drunk, and taking drunk people home. Finally my companions in university (maybe it was a reverse of high school, so my lack of interest on my co-students made them try to woo me?) prepared a surprise celebration, so I got caught in just another party. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. On Saturday I also had lunch out with my parents.

The only present I remember (because I still have it) was a silver and blue enamel keyring, with the crest for Chemistry. I suppose my parents accepted that after two years, yes, I really wanted to do Chemistry.
