This month Singapoor is trying to give its image a boost in London.

http://www.britishcouncil.org/sg-arts-uk-arts-in-singapore-2005ssl.htm

It is a pity that this is also the month that the ICA is spoiling it all by putting on Fifteen, AKA Shiwu, by notorious Singapoor film maker Royston Tan

http://www.ica.org.uk/index.cfm?articleid=13849

Tan is Singapoor's bete noir, it is said that half a century ago he would simply have been executed for his off-message depictions of youth rebellion and homosexuality.

Well you try and try....

It's good to know that there is in fact slack in Singapoor (even if you have to come to London to find it)

Yikes! As a former resident of London, and a current resident of Singapore, I would hope Londoners would have better things to do than attend any Singaporean art events. There is more slack in Singapore these days, if you call allowing HBO to show a heavily edited Sex and the City progress.
Thank God for the Net and for pirated DVDs and my frequent trips out.

The fact that I have no remedy for all the sorrows of the world is no reason for my accepting yours. It simply supports the strong probability that yours is a fake.

Hi dayliner,

good to hear from you.

I'm not a traveller myself so I only know the world via the media.

The impression of Singapoor on televison is of a buttoned down society where minor infractions will earn you a canining. Where chewing gum or peeing in lifts will get you arrested, kind of like Tokyo as run by Mega City One's Judges.

Now I have lived in places with bad reputaions so I do not believe this is all there is to the electric isle.

Can it be more than fascism with a freindly (probably digital)face?
