If you are unsure about hotel location, don't hesitate to ask and I'll tell you if it's convenient.

a lot of the hotels i was looking at were already fully booked, or had variable availability. a day here, a day there. and most of the maps the hotel sites link to don't really give you much guidance.

lim, you are probably as well to post your postcode/area summary to provide a guide line. though important not to mix up 69400 with 69004!

Here is a map, just like in Paris, the last number of the zip code is the number of the district (only 9 of them).

Main things to see will be in (or from) 69001, 69002, 69005.

Most convenient districts (by zip code) would be 69001 / 69002 (center, but should be expensive), 69003 (biggest district, keep an eye on the map, can be far away), 69004 can provide a killer view of the town as it's on a hill, but it really depends on which side you are. If you're out of luck it sucks big time. 69005 is a very old district, everything is expensive and I'm afraid the hotels would be very disappointing. 69006 will be expensive. 69007 is big and can be far away. 69008 and 69009 are not convenient.
Villeurbanne (69100, east from the 3rd and 6th) can be interesting if not too far.

69400 was the post code for the ibis that i was offered as being in lyon, but was actually in villefranche-sur-Saone. a five hour walk from the central station.

Booked- but in -03.
Too late for the very centre, it took ages to find this one!
SOmetimes I get a real aversion to booking hotels and flights, I do it too much with work-- so I procrastinate.

Still, will be great!

TEACHES ME NOT TO BOOK HOTELS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH A HEAD COLD...

More than that Novotel in the schticks, of course but the deal is good (by Norwegian standards, OK... but still!)

Far be it from me to be indiscreet, Heaven forbid--
BUT what better a luminary of THIS VERY BOARD than a certain Scot to celebrate his BIRTHday!! (I think he is still a youngster... ***does mental arithmetic, fails*** oh well) during the Festival of Such As He in Lyon!!! Dec 5th. And I for one will be there. Buying him champagne, eating at the Dancing Bear in French, having 'im pay for the rest of the drinks... watch the lights ---

Terrific, Babylon! Another famous Wigber to meet :-)
Yes, that hotel-- they still had rooms at a reduced price coupla days ago.

Not sure where remote is staying... hope they do fireworks and illuminations and stuff at breakfast for him on his birthday-- not a lot to ask surely.
If not I have decided to bring some.
