Now the only thing I need is to organise the TGV ride from Paris into Lyon (flying to and from Paris, Lyon is, like, three times as expensive). The TGV website is dreadful.
Does anyone know how hard or easy it is to get train tickets? (Advice?)

If not I have decided to bring some.

Well, it would be funny to see his face if they did. Big Grin
Hey, we could always pretend the Light Festival was in honour of his birthday. Razz

It's very easy.
Book a ticket online, get a reservation number.
Use your credit card and the number in one of the machines at the station, and you get your real ticket.

The only problem is that the English version of the site is even worst than the french one (http://www.voyages-sncf.com).

Seems to be working but doesn't tell me from where the trains go, so not sure how long it'll take me from CDG airport to the train.
How long would you plan in between landing and train?

ETA: Also, it gives me the choice between Lyon and Lyon St Exupery. What would you choose?

There are direct trains from the airport. If you fly on AF, you may be able to book flights and train tickets at the same time.
Try "AEROPORT CDG TGV" as a departure location.
As for the arrival, you should select "LYON PART-DIEU" or "LYON PERRACHE" (Lyon St Exupéry is the airport). If you're going to stay in the same area/hotel as Mr Push, then pick "Lyon Part-Dieu".

Don't book a domestic flight. Either you fly from Norway straight to Lyon, or you land in Paris and then get on a train. All in all, a second flight would be longer.

Why I HATE internet reservations -- grrrr!

I had got through all my choices on the TGV aller and then retour -- right down to the seating -- Haute fenetre-- when it all froze! Their site had trouble: veuillez patienter...

so here I am patienting...

I'm confused. Does this mean Aisha will be relegated to residing at a 'profane address' for the Meat?
