wonder if its worth flagging the possibility of lights and meat up now for this year's festival?

i know a few folk expressed interest after last year's.

any early takers?

I'm looking at bookings...it looks possible from a money POV although we have to count our holiday time again, which could be iffy.

What area was good to stay in, again? Presqu'ile OK? or of not, Part-Dieu or ...? sorry can't sift through pages of lovely pics just now Razz

Most convenient districts (by zip code) would be 69001 / 69002 (center, but should be expensive), 69003 (biggest district, keep an eye on the map, can be far away), 69004 can provide a killer view of the town as it's on a hill, but it really depends on which side you are. If you're out of luck it sucks big time. 69005 is a very old district, everything is expensive and I'm afraid the hotels would be very disappointing. 69006 will be expensive. 69007 is big and can be far away. 69008 and 69009 are not convenient.
Villeurbanne (69100, east from the 3rd and 6th) can be interesting if not too far.

Thanks, Remote! Smile (you don't mind if I call you remote, do you?)

Is it insane to spend upwards of $1200 per person for a six-day holiday? flights are such that one can have a five-hour stop at LHR, which could be conducive to a mini-meat, also...

Must crunch time and money with my (more-frugal) PK later. He really wants to see the pretty lights, I really don't want to go to Europe on a too-small budget (yet again), so perhaps we would be better served by waiting another year. But it's always something, so I'm sure we could talk ourselves out of it for years and years to come if we wanted...

everyone calls me remote, its fine.

not sure where you are looking at flying to. but it might turn out cheaper to get flight to paris, and train from there.

You could always have a longer London stop off and stay chez-Krad, as we WILL have a spare bedroom (and spare set of keys Wink ) by then!

david, looking back to get the info for areas i saw your comment about how busy it was and your concerns. i would say it is pretty busy, but mostly its manageable. the only time it got a bit out of hand was saturday night, which was just the peak of it and crazy. but to a degree i think it can be managed - we made mistake of crossing a bridge at a bad time, which provides bottle neck, meeting someone on other side of bridge then turning round and going back across bridge - that was teh worst point and could obviously be avoided.

the friday night was crowded but not so bad. probably worth seeing the big draws friday night, seeing some of the more peripheral on the saturday. though there was also the mini installations which we did on the sunday, which were pretty quiet, but just as worth seeing.

but those are just my thoughts from being there once. i'm sure limulus can give us greater insight to best way of approaching it tactically for crowd management.

again booking early should allow more/cheaper options for hotels i would expect.

We don't have the time to do it this year, as we've already committed all but three holiday days to other stuff, much of which is already paid for, and not only does it seem like madness to cross that many time zones for a five or six-day trip, it seems like madness to spend all that airfare on it.

I've found a couple of interesting and quasi-affordable hotels to look into for next year though. It's sad, cause I know the time will come and we'll be all OH WE COULDA BEEN THERE! but it will be nice to have a little longer trip next year and maybe stop in London for a couple of days. Thanks for the kind offer, MrsK, we may talk to you about it next year Smile

6 weeks!? 6 weeks!? who gets that? i don't! i get 4. ok, maybe 5 at a push.

as for the future, my sense is even if limulus left lyon he would still go back for the lights.

Not much to add. Saturday is usually crazy, the rest is manageable. I don't think the Wanderu should be afraid.

You don't want me to go tactical for crowd management. Unless you plan to shoot the sequel to Soylent Green Smile
