Ween/Buenas tardes amigo

Buenas tardes amigo
Hola, my good friend
Cinco de Mayo's on Tuesday
And I hoped we'd see each other again

You killed my brother last winter
You shot him three times in the back
In the night I still hear mama weeping
Oh mama, still dresses in black

I looked at every fiesta
For you I wanted to greet
Maybe I'd sell you a chicken
With poison interlaced with the meat

You... you look like my brother
Mama loved him the best
He was head honcho with the ladies
Mama always said he was blessed

The village all gathered around him
They couldn't believe what they saw
I said it was you that had killed him
And that I'd find you and upstand the law

The people of the village believed me
Mama... she wanted revenge
I told her I'd see that she was honored
I'd find you and put you to death

So now... now that I've found you
On this such a joyous day
I tell you it was me who killed him
But the truth I'll never have to say

Buenas tardes amigo
Hola, my good friend
Cinco de Mayo's on Tuesday
And I hoped we'd see each other again
Yes, I hoped we'd see each other again
I hoped we'd see each other again

Inspired by the Draft Dodgers thread, Khe Sanh is one of the greatest Aussie Songs. Don Walker is one of Australia's best lyricists. Walker's lyrics, Ian Moss's guitar and Jimmy Barnes's voice remind me of my time as a kid with Dad. Barnes is also one of the few, the proud and the mighty to challenge Bon Scott to drinking games.

Khe Sanh - Cold Chisel

I left my heart to the sappers round Khe Sanh
And my soul was sold with my cigarettes to the blackmarket man
I've had the Vietnam cold turkey
From the ocean to the Silver City
And it's only other vets could understand

About the long forgotten dockside guarantees
How there were no V-dayheroes in 1973
How we sailed into Sydney Harbour
Saw an old friend but couldn't kiss her
She was lined, and I was home to the lucky land

And she was like so many more from that time on
Their lives were all so empty, till they found their chosen one
And their legs were often open
But their minds were always closed
And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains
And the legal pads were yellow, hours long, paypacket lean
And the telex writers clattered where the gunships once had been
But the car parks made me jumpy
And I never stopped the dreams
Or the growing need for speed and novacaine

So I worked across the country end to end
Tried to find a place to settle down, where my mixed up life could mend
Held a job on an oil-rig
Flying choppers when I could
But the nightlife nearly drove me round the bend

And I've travelled round the world from year to year
And each one found me aimless, one more year the more for wear
And I've been back to South East Asia
But the answer sure ain't there
But I'm drifting north, to check things out again

You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Only seven flying hours, and I'll be landing in Hong Kong
There ain't nothing like the kisses
From a jaded Chinese princess
I'm gonna hit some Hong Kong mattress all night long

Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Yeah the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
And it's really got me worried
I'm goin' nowhere and I'm in a hurry
And the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone

Explode And Make Up - bob Mould

Heart holds mouth to words
Said it's gone beyond the line this time
Eyes twitch close
Numb the lights turned out I'm out

The cold is in my bones
Said it's gone beyond the line this time
Shake a little off the deep end
Tell me when it's over now

I hate you
Explode and make up
Threw it in the yard
Burned it in an ashtray
I don't need you
Even though it's all made up
Put it in your box and put it

Show me how you been
Said it's been so long, I don't recall
Used to be this way
That's the way it always seems to go

Tired and walked away
Said it's far when you don't have a place to go
Where'd you go
Tell me where am I supposed to go

Here we go, here we go again
There you go, there you go again

As the years
They go slowly bye and bye goodbye
After you, lead the way

Yeah, the breakup of Chisel was a tragedy, 'cos Baaarnesy just got into bullshit macho rock with no wit or subtlety, and it's best not to even think of Mossy's lyrics...

Portrait (Charles Mingus)

I've seen all kinds of pictures
Most of the beauties of the world
From places I've traveled I still recall
The quaint melody as I thrill
Painting my own
Pictures in tones

I've painted all mother earth
Both flowers that brave the morn
Tones color the life she's borne
I've tried to paint her beauties
From radiant skies to deep blue seas
The sky as she changes her glamour
Dawn's pale blue
Sunset's amber

The winds and the rains
The lull on the plains
Leaves on the ground
Mountains gray-brown
Tipped with a dash of glowing white snow

The winds and the rains
The lull on the plains
Leaves on the ground
Mountains gray-brown
Tipped with a dash of glowing white snow

"'Merican" by the descendents

We flipped our finger to the king of england
Stole our country from the indians
With god on our side and guns in our hands
We took it for our own
A nation dedicated to liberty
Justice and equality
Does it look that way to you?
It doesn't look that way to me
The sickest joke I know

Listen up man, I'll tell you who I am
Just another stupid 'merican
You don't wanna listen
You don't wanna understand
So finish up your drink and go home

I come from the land of Ben Franklin
Twain and Poe and Walt Whitman
Otis Redding, Ellington,
The country that I love
But it's a land of the slaves and the ku klux klan
Haymarket riot and the great depression
Joe McCarthy, Vietnam
The sickest joke I know

Listen up man, I'll tell you who I am
Just another stupid 'merican
You don't wanna listen
You don't wanna understand
So finish up your drink and go home

I'm proud and ashamed
Every fourth of july
You got to know the truth
Before you say that you got pride

Now the cops got tanks 'cause the kids got guns
Shrinks pushin' pills on everyone
Cancer from the ocean, cancer from the sun
Straight to Hell we go

Listen up man, I'll tell you who I am
Just another stupid 'merican
You don't wanna listen
You don't wanna understand
So finish up your drink and go home

As far as I'm concerned, I prefer silent vice to ostentatious virtue.

2 for tuesday--

Can's
BEL AIR
Sung by Damo Suzuki
[aka "Spare A Light"]

And when nobody can say that you hate,
But then your story made the store right now
And when you started to say that you hate
You're coming down to the start up gown.

And then this party, you just stay that you hate,
You're coming down to just start running down
And when nobody you're just shredding his head,
You're coming down to the start up gown.
Spinning down alone, spinning down alone,
Spinning down alone you spin alive.
Spinning down alone, spinning down alone,
Spinning down alone you spin alive.
Spinning down alone, spinning down alone,
Spinning down alone you spin alive.
Spinning down alone, spinning down alone,
Spinning down alone you spin alive.
Spinning down alone, spinning down alone,
Spinning down alone you spin alive.
Spinning down alone, spinning down alone,
Spinning down alone you spin alive.
When it's down alone, when it's down alone,
When it's down alone you spin alive.

It's down, breaking down where it's all alone,
It's down, breaking down where it's all alone,
But it's the dying.
The down breaking wall where it's all tonight,
It's down, breaking down where it's all tonight,
But just the dying, oh yeah.

Coming down to this speeding life,
You're coming down to this waiting goal,
Making down to this speeding life,
I'm breaking down to this walking goal.

Coming down to this speeding life,
You're coming down to this waiting goal,
Making down to this speeding life,
I'm breaking down to this walking goal.
Breaking down, you know, speaking down, you know,
Waking down, you know, you spin alive.
Breaking down, you know, speaking down, you know,
Waking down, you know, you spin alive.
Breaking down, you know, speaking down, you know,
Waking down, you know, you spin alive.
Breaking down, you know, speaking down, you know,
Waking down, you know, you spin alive.

And a VERY gibsonian one by Steely Dan:

KID CHARLEMAGNE

While the music played you worked by candlelight
Those San Francisco nights
You were the best in town
Just by chance you crossed the diamond with the pearl
You turned it on the world
That's when you turned the world around
Did you feel like Jesus
Did you realize
That you were a champion in their eyes
On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene
But yours was kitchen clean
Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motor home
Every A-Frame had your number on the wall
You must have had it all
You'd go to L.A. on a dare
And you'd go it alone
Could you live forever
Could you see the day
Could you feel your whole world fall apart and fade away

CHORUS:
Get along, get along Kid Charlemagne
Get along Kid Charlemagne

Now your patrons have all left you in the red
Your low rent friends are dead
This life can be very strange
All those dayglow freaks who used to paint the face
They've joined the human race
Some things will never change
Son you were mistaken
You are obsolete
Look at all the white men on the street

CHORUS

Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car
Yes, there's gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
Know who you are

Careful what you carry
'Cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes

CHORUS

two by the black rider...mr tom waits;

Romeo is Bleeding
romeo is bleeding but not so as you'd notice
he's over on 18th street as usual
looking so hatd against the hood of his car
ans putting out a cigarette in his hand
and for all the pachucos at the pumps
at romeros paint and body
they all seein how far they can spit
well it was just another night
but now they're huddled in the brake lights of a 58 belair
and listenin how romeo killed a sherif with his knife

and they all jump when they hear the sirens
but romeo just laughs and says
all the racket in the world ain't never gonna
save that coppers ass
he'll never see another summertime for gunnin down my
brother
and leavin him like a dog beneath a car without his knife

and romeo says hey man gimme a cigatette
and they all reach for their pack
and frankie lights it for him and pats him on the back
and throws a bottle at a milk truck
and as it breaks he graps his nuts
and they all know they could be just like romeo
if they only had the guts

but romeo is bleeding but nobody can tell
amd he sings along with the radio
with a bullet in his chest
and he combs back his fenders
and they all agree its clear
that everything is cool now that romeos here
but romeo is bleeding
and he winches now and then and he leans against
the car door and feels the blood in his shoes
and someones crying in the phone booth
at the 5 points by the store
romeo starts his engine
and wipes the blood of the door
and he brodys through the signal
with the radio full blast
leavin the boys there hikin up their chinos
and they all try to stand like romeo
beneath the moon cut like a sicle
and they're talkin now in spanish about their hero

but romeo is bleeding as he gives the man his ticket
and he climbs to the balcony at the movies
and he'll die without a wimper
like every heros dream
just an angel with a bullet
and cagney in the screen

$29.00
little black girl in a red dress
on a hot night with a broken shoe
little black girl you shoulda never left home
theres probly someone thats still waitin up for you
its cold back in chicago
but in los angeles its worse
when all you got is $29.00 and an alligator purse

i see already that vulture in the fleetwood
with the shartruse hood
can see you're trying to get your bearings
and you say hey which ways the main stem
and where ever you say you're from
he'll say he grew up there himself
and he'll comeon and make you feel
like you grew up right next door to him
and you say take a left on central
and he throws it in reverse
cause you only got $29.00 and an alligator purse

and he'll come on like a gentleman
and you'll be a little shy
you say your ex old man was a sax player
he'll say baby i used to play bass for sly
and you say you like his cadillac, say honey i got 2 or 3
he'll say sweetheart you're sure fortunate
that you ran into me
when you've done a dime in the joint
you figure nothin could be worse
and you got $29.00 in an alligator purse

well he got pharoh on the 8 track
you start smokin a little boo
you thinkin gettin out of chicago was the
best thing ever happened to you
but he ain't no good samaritan
he'll make sure he's reimbursed
lot more than $29.00 and an alligator purse

now when the streets get hungry, baby
you can almost hear them growl
someone's setting a place for you
when the dogs begin to howl

well the streets are dead
they creep up and ??? but it was left on the pole
they make... suckers always make mistakes
when they're far away from home
Chicken in a pot
Whoever gets their first
Gonna get himself 29.00
and an alligator purse

now the sirens just an epilog
the cops always get there too late
they always stop for coffee on the way to the scene of the
crime
they always try so hard to look like movie stars
they couldnt catch a cold
you only wasting your dime
and she's lucky to be alive
the doctor whispered to the nurse
she only lost a 1/2 pint of blood
$29.00 and an alligator purse

chisel, back when barnesey could sing...

and one of my favourite covers ever was the reel's version of 'forever now'.

khe sanh was the unofficial aussie cricket team themesong in the steve waugh years cause it's the only song he knew all the words to.

my aunty and uncle once sang the new year in with barnsey, swanee and the whole family. my aunty is incredibly straight but the barnses heard her traditional scottish singing and my uncle's bagpiping from next door so they begged them to join them.

See, I always used to be pissed off at Barnesy for 'catering to the American market' by singing 'Working Class Man' with 'class' pronounced to rhyme with 'ass' rather than 'arse' or 'ahse'. It was only years later I really realised he was a Scot...

Cannibal Corpse/Mummified In Barbed Wire

Wrap the wire round the neck, pull it tight to suffocate
His mouth is spewing steaming blood
Hang the body with a cord, gag his mouth with shards of steel
He doesn't know the pain he'll feel
Interwoven deadly spikes, tightening cables lacerate
Assorted gashes open wide
Ruptured veins are gushing blood, scraps of skin are flying off
The body of the helpless prey
.
Jagged cable binds, you scream, no escape
Metal barbs tearing at you, rend your flesh
.
Tear apart the tendons, wire chokes the victim
Shred away his features, shred away his being
Rip the tissue from the body, rend your flesh
.
Lacerate, sharp spikes rip
Mutilate, pierce the skin
.
Mummified in barbed wire
Breathing stops, life expires
Mummified in barbed wire
Metal binds as you die
.
Tangled in a web of pain, no escape
Blood seeps through the metal sheath, saw-like noose
.
Tear apart the tendons, wire chokes the victim
Shred away his features, shred away his being
Gleaming cords encase the corpse, no escape
.
Lacerate, sharp spikes rip
Mutilate, pierce the skin
.
Mummified in barbed wire
Breathing stops, life expires
Mummified in barbed wire
Metal binds as you die
.
Steel wraps your face, blood soaks the steel
Bound in wire, soon to die, life choked out, bleed to death
.
Mummified in barbed wire

For My Next Trick I'll Need A Volunteer
Warren Zevon

I can saw a woman in two
But you won't want to look in the box when I do
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer

I can pull a rabbit out of a hat
I can pull it out but I can't put it back
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer

It's lonely up here
When the tricks have been played
And the spotlights have faded
And the plans that we made
Have fallen apart
It's lonely as hell
And there's no magic spell
For a broken heart

You can put me in chains and I will escape
Better not wait up 'cause I might be late
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer
It's lonely up here
When the tricks have been played
And the spotlights have faded
And the plans that we made
Have fallen apart
It's lonely as hell
And there's no magic spell
For a broken heart

I can saw a woman in two
But you won't want to look in the box when I do
I can make love disappear
For my next trick I'll need a volunteer

Waving My Dick In The Wind\ by Ween

I'm waving my dick in the wind
waving my dick in the wind
if it all goes right, I'll be in your arms tonight
but I'm wavin' my dick in the wind

I'm lost in the sauce once again
I'm lost in the sauce once again
If I make it through the night
everything will be alright
but I'm lost in the sauce once again

Its been 97 days since i've laid my head beside you
and a million miles of highway in between
there's some red and blue lights that are shinin' right behindme
and that pig's a pretty mean bastard

You should have seen old Jimmy Wilson dance
you should have seen old Jimmy Wilson dance
give that boy a dime and you could have a chance
to see old Jimmy Wilson dance
dance Jimmy...

I've got a real good feelin bout' old Jimmy Wilson
sho' nuff' he's got what it takes
do another number for me please won't ya Jimmy
cause you're a really good dancer...

Im wavin my dick in the wind....

Tool - The Patient

(captures how I feel some days)

A groan of tedium escapes me
Startling the fearful
Is this a test?
It has to be
Otherwise I can't go on

Draining patience
Drain vitality
This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old

But I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I'm still right here

But I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I'm still right here

Gonna wait it out...
gonna wait it out...
be patient!..

If there were no rewards to reap
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away
By now

Gonna wait it out!

If there were no desire to heal
The damaged and broken met along
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away
By now

And I still may
I still may

Be patient
Be patient
Be patient

I must keep reminding myself of this
I must keep reminding myself of this
I must keep reminding myself of this
I must keep reminding myself of this

If there were no rewards to reap
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away
By now
And I still may
And I still may
And I still may
And I...

Gonna wait it out
Gonna wait it out
Wait it out
Gonna wait it out
