The Who
Won't Get Fooled Again We'll be fighting in the streets With our children at our feet And the morals that they worship will be gone And the men who spurred us on Sit in judgement of all wrong They decide and the shotgun sings the song I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again The change, it had to come We knew it all along We were liberated from the fold, that's all And the world looks just the same And history ain't changed 'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again No, no! I'll move myself and my family aside If we happen to be left half alive I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky Though I know that the hypnotized never lie Do ya? There's nothing in the streets Looks any different to me And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye And the parting on the left Are now parting on the right And the beards have all grown longer overnight I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again Don't get fooled again No, no! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Meet the new boss Same as the old boss The Lithos School of Curiousity is now enrolling |

Stargazer/Light In The Black - Rainbow
High noon Oh I’d sell my soul for water Nine years’ worth Of breakin’ my back There’s no sun in the shadow of the wizard See how he glides Why he’s lighter than air Oh I see his face Where is your star Is it far, is it far, is it far When do we leave I believe, yes, I believe In the heat and the rain With whips and chains Just to see him fly So many die We built a tower of stone With our flesh and bone Just to see him fly Don’t know why Now where do we go? Hot wind moving fast across the desert We feel that our time has arrived The world spins while we put his wing together A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky Oh I see his face Where is your star It is far, is it far, is it far When do we leave, yeah I believe, I believe In the heat and rain With whips and chains To see him fly Too many die We built a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But we don’t know why Now where do we go? All eyes see the figure of the wizard As he climbs to the top of the world No sound as he falls instead of rising Time standing still Then there’s blood on the sand Oh I see his face Where was your star Was it far, was it far When did we leave We believed, we believed, we believed In the heat and rain With whips and chains To see him fly So many died We built a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But why, in all the rain With all our chains, Did so many die Just to see him fly Look at my flesh and bone Now look, look, look, look Look at his tower of stone I see a rainbow rising Look there on the horizon And I’m coming home Coming home, I’m coming home Time is standing still He gave me back my will Oh, oh, oh, oh Going home I’m going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is weeping We still hope, we still hope, oh Take me back He gave me back my will Oh, oh, oh, oh Going home I’m going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is weeping We still hope, we still hope, oh Take me back, take me back Back to my home, oh, oh... ____________________________________ Can't forget his face What a lonely place Has he really let us go? All the time that's lost What's the final cost Will I really get away? All my life it seems Just a crazy dream Reaching for somebody's star Can't believe it all Did he really fall What to do now I don't know Something's callin' me back There's a light in the black and I'm ready to go I'm coming home Breathed the air before Hear the thunder roar Never knew it was for me Always looking down Lost and never found Eyes that look but not to see All my life it seems Just a crazy dream Reaching for somebody's star Like an open door That you've passed before But you never had the key Something's callin' me back There's a light in the black And I'm ready to go I'm coming home, I'm coming home, yeah I'm going back to my home I'm going home, home, home Going home, home, home I'm coming back Won't forget his face What a lonely place Did he really let us go All the time that's lost What's the final cost Will I really get away? All my life it seems Just a crazy dream Reaching for somebody's star Can't believe it all Did he really fall What to do now, I don't know Something's callin' me back Like a light in the black Yes, I'm ready to go I'm coming home, home, yeah I'm on my way back home... New Model Army: Smalltown England
Turn left at the lights about 50 yards down There's a pub in the corner and I'll meet you inside About quarter to eight and we'll go into town And find out what everybody's been saying about us Smalltown walls have eyes and ears Stories fly thick and fast round here Truth and lies are all the same Whatever you do don't rock the boat You've got to play the game, play the game Is it a crime to want something else? Is it a crime to believe in something different? Is it a crime to want to make things happen? To spit in the faces of the cynical fools The incrowd know that the shell is thin So they all protect the cage they're in Get drunk and stoned and wrecked again No tears of rage, no cries of pain Nothing ventured, nothing gained In smalltown England Because the world outside the pint in hand Is all so hard to understand And if visions of the world come clear They're not allowed to interfere Is it a crime to want something else? Is it a crime to believe in something different? Is it a crime to want to make things happen? To spit in the faces of the cynical fools The smell of hot food from the takeaway curry Diesel fumes from a passing lorry Waiting in the queue in the pouring rain For the chip shop up on Bowling Lane Well, last week we all got really smashed We couldn't stand up, it was a real laugh And this week's going to be just the same And the next and the next, again and again They say you've got to have fun while you're young 'Cause they can't believe there's anything else except this. |

Lean on Me
Bill Withers Sometimes in our lives we all have pain We all have sorrow But if we are wise We know that there's always tomorrow Lean on me, when you're not strong And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna need Somebody to lean on Please swallow your pride If I have things you need to borrow For no one can fill those of your needs That you don't let show Lean on me, when you're not strong And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna need Somebody to lean on If there is a load you have to bear That you can't carry I'm right up the road I'll share your load If you just call me So just call on me brother, when you need a hand We all need somebody to lean on I just might have a problem that you'd understand We all need somebody to lean on Lean on me when you're not strong And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on For it won't be long Till I'm gonna need Somebody to lean on |

"Talk to me of Mendocino"
Kate & Anna McGarrigle I bid farewell to the state of old New York My home away from home In the state of New York I came of age When first I started roaming And the trees grow high in New York State And they shine like gold in the autumn Never had the blues from whence I came But in New York State I got 'em Talk to me of Mendocino Closing my eyes I hear the sea Must I wait Must I follow Won't you say come with me And it's on to South Bend, Indiana Flat out on the western plain Rise up over the Rockies And down on into California Out to where but the rocks remain And let the sun set on the ocean I will watch it from the shore Let the sun rise over the redwoods I'll rise with it till I rise no more Talk to me of Mendocino Closing my eyes I hear the sea Must I wait Must I follow Won't you say come with me I have loved this song for over a quarter of a century and it still retains the power to move me. "The Pretender" - Jackson Browne
My favourite verse I’m going to find myself a girl Who can show me what laughter means And we’ll fill in the missing colors In each other’s paint-by-number dreams And then we’ll put out dark glasses on And we’ll make love until our strength is gone And when the morning light comes streaming in We’ll get up and do it again Get it up again LN “In the middle of the journey of our life I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost.†Dante Alighieri |

Ay-men!
----------------------------- "It may be said with rough accuracy that there are three stages in the life of a strong people. First, it is a small power, and fights small powers. Then it is a great power, and fights great powers. Then it is a great power, and fights small powers, but pretends that they are great powers, in order to rekindle the ashes of its ancient emotion and vanity. After that, the next step is to become a small power itself." --GK Chesterton, "Heretics" |

"It's commin' from the women and the men
Ahhhh baby we'll be making love again." That is Such a fine song.. My Pa, in his 70's plays that song after Mr. Bush gets under his skin for too long

I saw Elizabethtown the other week and the soundtrack was possibly the only redeeming feature. On it the Hollies sing an old Judee Sill song & yesterday I finally located my copy of it & even if (unlike me) you can't hear it.......just read the words.
Sweet silver angels over the sea Please come down flying low for me One time I trusted a stranger 'cause I heard his sweet song And it was gently enticing me Though there was something wrong When I turned he was gone [Chorus:] Blinding me his song remains reminding me He's a bandit and a heartbreaker Oh but Jesus was a crossmaker [Chorus] He wages war with the devil A pistol by his side And though he chases him out my window and Won't give him a place to hide He keeps his door open wide Fighting him He lights a lamp inviting him He's a bandit and a heartbreaker Oh but Jesus was a crossmaker [Chorus] I hear the thunder come rumbling The light never looked so dim I see the junction get nearer And danger's in the wind And either road's looking grim Hiding me I flee desire's dividing me He's a bandit and a heartbreaker Oh but Jesus was a crossmaker Yeah but Jesus was a crossmaker LN “In the middle of the journey of our life I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost.†Dante Alighieri |

Universal Soldier
He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four, He fights with missiles and with spears. He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen, Been a soldier for a thousand years. He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain, A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew. And he knows he shouldn't kill, And he knows he always will, Kill you for me my friend and me for you. And he's fighting for Canada, He's fighting for France, He's fighting for the USA, And he's fighting for the Russians, And he's fighting for Japan, And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way. And he's fighting for Democracy, He's fighting for the Reds, He says it's for the peace of all. He's the one who must decide, Who's to live and who's to die, And he never sees the writing on the wall. But without him, How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau? Without him Caesar would have stood alone, He's the one who gives his body As a weapon of the war, And without him all this killing can't go on. He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame, His orders come from far away no more, They come from here and there and you and me, And brothers can't you see, This is not the way we put the end to war. The right to bear arms is slightly less ludicrous than the right to arm bears. |

Artist: Tracy Chapman
Song: Hard Wired Your wants desires Needs and wishes Will be duly noted Processed filed and cataloged Labeled and encoded Turned into sitcom dialog And advertising slogans We've got a box to put in your brain Hard wired for downloading All the secrets and the mysteries You've been selfishly withholding The dreams and hopes That once were yours Will now be collected and dispersed So the first to come with cash to spend Will be the first one served We've got a box to put in your brain Hard wired for downloading All the secrets and the mysteries You've been selfishly withholding Make you think you like to be watched Displayed on the auction block Invaded in your own home Stripped naked on the television Humiliated in front of millions We've got a box to put in your brain Hard wired for downloading All the secrets and the mysteries You've been selfishly withholding We've got a box to put in your brain Your wants desires Needs and wishes Will be duly noted radiant thunder, silent fury [There is always a pattern.] |

Where you end - Moby
Some things fall apart Some things makes you whole Some things that you find Are beyond your control I love you and you're beautiful You write your own songs What if the right part of leaving Turned out to be wrong If I could kiss you now Oh I'd kiss you now again and again 'Til I don't know where I begin And where you end Thought I fell in love the other day With an old friend of mine I was running kisses Down every inch of her spine We had the roof down The sun came shining in The black fact is That I was thinking of you If I could kiss you now Oh I'd kiss you now again and again 'Til I don't know where I begin And where you end I slept in the sun the other day I thought I was fine Everything seemed perfect 'Til I had you on my mind I tried to love you I did all that I could I wish that the bad now Had finally turned into good If I could kiss you now Oh I'd kiss you now again and again 'Til I don't know where I begin And where you end If I could kiss you now If I could kiss you now If I could kiss you now Oh where you end Is where I begin Oh where you end Oh where you end Oh where you end Good to see Hardwired favorited twice. Crash, burn, reset. |

Gogol Bordello: Illumination
Don't believe them for a moment For a second, do not believe, my friend When you are down, them are not coming With a helping hand Of course this is no us and them But them they do not think the same It's them who do not think They never step on spiritual path They paint their faces so differently from ours And if you listen closely That war it never stops Be them new Romans Don't envy them my friend Be their lives longer Their longer lives are spent Without a love or faithful friend All those things they have to rent But we who see our destiny In sound of this same old punk song Let rest originality for sake of passing it around Illuminating realization number one: You are the only light there is For yourself my friend There'll be no saviors any soon coming down And anyway illuminations Never come from the crowned Illuminating realization number one: You are the only light there is For yourself my friend |

Like most people my age, I was a Beatles fan from the start, but then they kind of slipped from my consciousness.
But the other day, I heard "For No One" sung by someone else (don't think I even know who it was) whilst I was driving and 48 hours later the tune sprang unbidden into my mind as I was shaving & as I sang the song to myself in my mirror, I suddenly realised that this was a fucking amazing piece of writing. The day breaks Your mind aches You find that all her words of kindness linger on When she no longer needs you She wakes up She makes up She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry; She no longer needs you And in her eyes you see nothing No sign of love behind the tears Cried for no one A love that should have lasted years You want her You need her And yet you don't believe her when she says Her love is dead You think she needs you And in her eyes you see nothing No sign of love behind the tears Cried for no one A love that should have lasted years You stay home She goes out She says that long ago she knew someone But now he's gone She doesn't need him Your day breaks Your mind aches There will be times when all the things she said will fill your head, You won't forget her And in her eyes you see nothing No sign of love behind the tears Cried for no one A love that should have lasted years LN “In the middle of the journey of our life I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost.†Dante Alighieri |

Better Back Off
(M. Crenshaw, T. Teeley) Now you can't always get what you want No, you can't always get what you need Sometimes you lose what you thought you had And that's a real bad deal indeed But when you're angry at life itself Having a bad, bad day Don't judge yourself so brutally I can't stand it when you talk that way Oh baby, baby Better back off of that stuff You'd better take it slow I know you know That you're talking about someone I love Did you say what I think I heard? Did you mean what I think you said? Why don't you redirect your rage Onto somebody else instead Now, we all have to walk that line Between sorrow and happiness Come over here and take my hand Won't you please give us both a rest? Oh baby, baby Better back off that stuff You'd better take it slow I know you know That you're talking about someone I love Oh baby, baby I've heard enough 'Cause I know you will come through And you know it too You're talking about someone I love __________ People lie with words all the time, but rarely do they lie with actions. |

Kid Charlemagne - Steely Dan
Man, do I wanna sing this song in karaoke..."This one's for all the acidheads!" While the music played you worked by candlelight Those san francisco nights You were the best in town Just by chance you crossed the diamond with the pearl You turned it on the world That’s when you turned the world around Did you feel like jesus Did you realize That you were a champion in their eyes On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene But yours was kitchen clean Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motor home Every a-frame had your number on the wall You must have had it all You’d go to l.a. on a dare And you’d go it alone Could you live forever Could you see the day Could you feel your whole world fall apart and fade away Get along, get along kid charlemagne Get along kid charlemagne Now your patrons have all left you in the red Your low rent friends are dead This life can be very strange All those dayglow freaks who used to paint the face They’ve joined the human race Some things will never change Son you were mistaken You are obsolete Look at all the white men on the street Clean this mess up else we’ll all end up in jail Those test tubes and the scale Just get them all out of here Is there gas in the car Yes, there’s gas in the car I think the people down the hall Know who you are Careful what you carry ’cause the man is wise You are still an outlaw in their eyes The Lithos School of Curiousity is now enrolling |
