Call of the Wig-hat - The Cramps
Well momma had twin babies One sweet summer day She beat one in the head And I'm the one the got away Protected by my wig-hat And my Frederick snake print pants I rode my horse to Hollywood And did a wondrous dance ... Well I can still hear momma calling, Junior, get home! What's got into you? What's that on your dome? It's the call of the wig-hat It's a modern age taboo For they forever seperate The old from the new. History is the excavation of graves--essential work, if one is to understand the graves that await us in the future. |

Cake - Short Skirt / Long Jacket
I want a girl with a mind like a diamond I want a girl who knows what's best I want a girl with shoes that cut And eyes that burn like cigarettes I want a girl with the right allocations Who's fast and thorough And sharp as a tack She's playing with her jewelry She's putting up her hair She's touring the facility And picking up slack I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnng jacket...... I want a girl who gets up early I want a girl who stays up late I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity Who used a machette to cut through red tape With fingernails that shine like justice And a voice that is dark like tinted glass She is fast and thorough And sharp as a tack She's touring the facility And picking up slack I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnnng.... lonnng jacket I want a girl with a smooth liquidation I want a girl with good dividends And at the city bank we will meet accidentally We'll start to talk when she borrows my pen She wants a car with a cupholder arm rest She wants a car that will get her there She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler La Baron I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnnggggggggg jacket _____________________________ Albert's path is a strange and difficult one. |

More than 30 years ago, I bought the album 'Blue' by Joni Mitchell & I fell in love with the track A Case of You, sitting here now listening to it, I am still enraptured by it.
Just before our love got lost you said, "I am as constant as a northern star." And I said, "Constantly in the darkness Where's that at? If you want me I'll be in the bar." On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada Oh Canada With your face sketched on it twice Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you, darling And I would still be on my feet Oh I would still be on my feet Oh I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints I'm frightened by the devil And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid I remember that time you told me, you said, "Love is touching souls" Surely you touched mine 'Cause part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you, darling Still, I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet I met a woman She had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can But be prepared to bleed" Oh but you are in my blood You're my holy wine You're so bitter, bitter and so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling Still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet LN “In the middle of the journey of our life I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost.†Dante Alighieri |

LN's repost of "A case of you" made me think on repeated posts on this thread, but after a quick leaf through it has been a rare affair.
Three Australians posted Paul Kelly's "All the dumb things." Two of them posted "To her door" as well. Joe Jackson's "Is she really going out with him?", Tracy Chapman's "Hardwired", Bob Dylan's "Ballad of a thin man" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" got two posts as well. Concerning number of postings per artist, in a raw form, it would go to Slayer or Dead Kennedys, but only due to Boogerhead's preferences. Other posters have also pushed for their favorite authors. So counting each poster as one, no matter how many songs they liked, the most quoted is Tom Waits, which is not really surprising. In good places we have Elvis Costello and Leonard Cohen, which is not a surprise either. Retired |

When you, when you forget your name
When old faces all look the same Meet me in the morning when you wake up Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up If only I don't bend and break I'll meet you on the other side I'll meet you in the light If only I don't suffocate I'll meet you in the morning when you wake Lovesick bitter and hardened heart Aching waiting for night waiting for life to start Meet me in the morning when you wake up Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up If only I don't bend and break I'll meet you on the other side I'll meet you in the light If only I don't suffocate I'll meet you in the morning when you wake If only I don't bend and break I'll meet you on the other side I'll meet you in the light If only I don't suffocate I'll meet you in the morning when you wake I'll meet you on the other side I'll meet you in the light If only I don't suffocate I'll meet you in the morning when you wake Bend & Break - Keane radiant thunder, silent fury [There is always a pattern.] |

One of the best sad Christmas songs ever, also from Joni's 'Blue':
RIVER It's coming on Christmas They're cutting down trees They're putting up reindeer And singing songs of joy and peace Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on But it don't snow here It stays pretty green I'm going to make a lot of money Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene I wish I had a river I could skate away on I wish I had a river so long I would teach my feet to fly Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on I made my baby cry He tried hard to help me You know, he put me at ease And he loved me so naughty Made me weak in the knees Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on I'm so hard to handle I'm selfish and I'm sad Now I've gone and lost the best baby That I ever had Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on I wish I had a river so long I would teach my feet to fly Oh I wish I had a river I made my baby say goodbye It's coming on Christmas They're cutting down trees They're putting up reindeer And singing songs of joy and peace I wish I had a river I could skate away on __________ People lie with words all the time, but rarely do they lie with actions. |

Artist: Dolly Parton
Song: Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, I'm begging of you please don't take my man. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Please don't take him just because you can. Your beauty is beyond compare, With flaming locks of auburn hair, With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green. Your smile is like a breath of spring; Your voice is soft like summer rain, And I cannot compete with you, Jolene. He talks about you in his sleep, An' there's nothing I can do to keep, From crying when he calls your name, Jolene. And I can easily understand, How you could easily take my man, But you don't know what he means to me, Jolene. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, I'm begging of you please don't take my man. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Please don't take him just because you can. You could have your choice of men, But I could never love again. He's the only one for me, Jolene. I had to have this talk with you: My happiness depends on you, And whatever you decide to do, Jolene. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, I'm begging of you please don't take my man. Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Please don't take him even though you can. Jolene. ( Jolene.) Remember kids, the internet loves you. Even though sometimes it touches you in the bad place. |

Example:
Paul Kelly - Before Too Long Before too long The one that you're loving Will wish that he'd never met you Before too long He who is nothing Will suddenly come into view So let the time keep rolling on It's on my side Lonely nights will soon be gone High is the tide Before too long We'll be together And no-one will tear us apart Before too long The words will be spoken I know all the action by heart As the night time follows day I'm closing in Every dog will have his day Any dog can win Shut the shade do no fear anymore Here I come creeping round your back door Before too long I'll be repeating What's happened before in my mind Before too long Over and over Just like a hammer inside As the nighttime follows day I'm closing in Every dog will have his day Any dog can win Before too long Before too long The Lithos School of Curiousity is now enrolling |

Bran Van 3000 - Supermodel
Ooh, look at all this company come 'round tonight. Even Catherine O'Hara's come by to say hello. You really wanna know? Well, I'll tell you, I might have to pour myself another little moonshine... Here we go: It was a sweet and frosty May, In the town of Thunder Bay, When Dale and Wendy Day went out to Sweetbrush Lake. Found a weeping willow to sit down and do the Thunder Bay a go-go, While the wind was real soft. Poor little Wendy just had to break. Later on that month, Dale went for Pepper lunch at the "we're-all-in-this-together diner". Yeah, the pea soup was fine, The corn cob on time, The chili dogs even finer. The real reason was that Wendy was working counter. Those two little kids just couldn't get enough of each other. Dale broke out like a man and said: "Wendy I think I want to take your hand and make little children, live beyond the sand. In respect to the clouds and the colony of your eyes, that day we made love, I'm going to call my little child Amber Jones" Hey supermodel, set the rest of us free. Which is exactly what happened. There ain't no genie in the bottle, or in that magazine. Let me ask you one question, and it goes: Hey supermodel, What's it like being pretty? Now everyone knows that if you're going to run a successful café, You have to hire the prettiest waitress. Amber it turns out had been working at the Pepperlunch café just like her mother did 20 years earlier, And it boils down to this very simple doctrine, Given by Ralph Habbasham the owner: Ralph says the customer is always right, And the customers here are mostly men, And though it don't seem, From table 2 to 16, All men do is dream: Of falling in love, just like women. Now sitting at table 20 was a man from New York city who was most impressed with Amber's poses. He said, "Come over here missy, I gots a kind of proposition, that is, if you're willing to listen." Hey supermodel, set the rest of us free. There ain't no genie in the bottle, or in that magazine. Come with me. Hey supermodel. Where will I stay? My place, where do you think? Is it big enough? It's got a double bed! And she was just everywhere! I mean little girls wanted to be like her, Little boys wanted to be with her, And even mothers somehow altered their physique just to be a little close to what Amber represented. One day Amber, who likes the Sweetbrush diner where she used to work, really missed those coconut cake cucumbers, And made out with one giant flesh missile on the top of her forehead. Poor little Amber couldn't do a thing about it. And her poor career went kinda downhill as the people outside her hotel room penthouse cried out... Well, you know what they cried out: Hey supermodel, set the rest of us free. Sing along with me gals. There ain't no genie in the bottle, or in that magazine. Hey supermodel, What's it like being a teen dream? Shackles, shackles, shackles on my heart, I loved you from the very first day, from the start, But you left, call it theft of the heart, Bring me back the spark, Pretty girl, pretty princess, that is left. Bright lights in the glitter, The shine of the night, right, You dreamed of the city 'cause you dreamed of flight, But it's timber, watch these trees that are falling, Pretty little princess with no one to call, It's a small town now girl, it doesn't seem so small, First love, fifth grade, first kiss at the mall, with me. Y'all check it with the degrees, Bring it back on the m-i-c, 'Cause the man's on his knees, Small town ways, In the g's from grade, Bring me back sunny days, We's that praise, haze, Y'all tripping through the maze everyday, In the mind want the grape from the vine that was mine. Come back y'all to the very first day that we met, 'Cause I must call it theft, y'all, Protection and selection of my memories, Poet on the mic, With degrees saying please, Princess y'all, my supermodel girl, Bring you back pretty princess, 'Cause I like to rock your world, One time, smooth, sweet like wine. |

The perfect drug - Nine Inch Nails
I got my head, but my head is unraveling Can’t keep control, can’t keep track of where it’s traveling I got my heart but my heart is no good And you’re the only one that’s understood I come along but I don’t know where you’re taking me I shouldn’t go but you’re reaching back and shaking me Turn off the sun, pull the stars from the sky The more I give to you, the more I die And I want you And I want you And I want you And I want you You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You make me hard, when I’m all soft inside I see the truth, when I’m all stupid eyed The arrow goes straight through my heart Without you everything just falls apart My blood wants to say hello to you My feelings want to get inside of you My soul is so afraid to realize Every little word is a lack of me And I want you And I want you And I want you And I want you You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug (whispering) You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You are the perfect drug, the drug, the perfect drug “In the middle of the journey of our life I came to myself within a dark wood where the straight way was lost.†Dante Alighieri |

Faith No More/Zombie Eaters
You're everything That's why I cling to you When I emerge My thoughts converge to you To you The world is so small Compared to you And everybody's wrong Compared to you To you I begin to see through your eyes All the former mysteries are no surprise So now, you listen Cuz I'm omniscient Hey look at me lady I'm just a little baby You're lucky to have me I'm cute and sweet as candy As charming as a fable I'm innocent and disabled So hug me and kiss me Then wipe my butt and piss me I hope you never leave Cuz who would hear me scream? Nobody understands Except the toys in my hands So now you listen Cuz I'm omniscient Hey look at me lady I'm just a little baby If I smile, then you smile Then I'll get mad for awhile I melt in your mouth And in your hands whenever I can But I really do nothing Except kickin' and fussin' I like to make a mess I laugh at your distress I sit all day in my crib Absorbing all you give I'm helpless I'm flawless I'm a machine Give me, I need my toys... Keep me hot Keep me strong Keep me everlong So now you listen Cuz I'm omniscient As far as I'm concerned, I prefer silent vice to ostentatious virtue. -Albert Einstein |

Lyle Lovett - She's Already Made Up Her Mind
She said something about going home She said something about needing to spend some time alone And she wondered out loud what it was she had to find But she's already made up her mind All my friends told me she was too young Well I knew that myself and I tried to run But the faster I ran the more I fell behind Because she'd already made up her mind She's already made up her mind Now there is nothing so deep as the ocean And there is nothing so high as the sky And there is nothing so unwavering as a woman When she's already made up her mind So now she's sitting at one end of the kitchen table And she is staring without an expression And she is talking to me without moving her eyes Because she's already made up her mind She's already made up her mind She's already made up her mind And she said something about going home And she said something about needing to spend some time alone And she wondered out loud what it was she had to find But she'd already made up her mind So my friend carry me down to the water's edge And then sail with me out to that ocean deep And let me go easy down over the side And remember me to her She's already made up her mind She's already made up her mind She's already made up her mind |

Die Like a Dog Could've, inable I will take the fall Could've, [...] I will play ball Hiding inner hope I am secret oath I get black and cold I won't play ball Peace in a world free from religion Peace in a world where everyone gets heaven Peace in a world free from religion Peace in a world where everyone gets heaven I'd like to say, to say that I'd survive I'd like to see, to say that I'd survive Peace in a world free from religion Peace in a world where everyone get heaven Peace in a world free from religion Peace in a world where everyone gets heaven Just try not to die like a dog End up alone, freezing from the smog I'm just trying not to die in vain Then leave my mark, stake my claim Peace in a world free from religion Peace in a world where everyone gets heaven Peace in a world free from religion Peace in a world where everyone gets heaven Peace in a world free from religion Peace in a world where everyone gets heaven Peace in a world, Peace in a world, Peace in a world Free from religion Listen to my eyes clean In colorful confessions I remember mutual aggression Is all in the body's lips participate by participating! |

Star ~ Semisonic
I wandered in the moonlight, A ghost without a friend, All around the starlight found are lost and wounded men. I know that I did some damage, I wanted to be home again, So I waited for a star my soul to mend, I waited for a star my soul to mend. She came a long way to love me, And I'm tasting her spark. She came a long way to kiss me, Now my lips are wet. I know that I don't deserve it, But I want to hear her sigh, And I want to stay here forever in her light, I want to stay forever in her light. Star you're a beautiful sight, Bring me your lovely light, I'll be a satellite, satellite. Star you're a beautiful sight, Bring me your lovely light, I'll be a satellite, satellite. And there's a dark crater space in heaven, And I might want you to shine, And there's a bright little place in my head, And darkness blows my mind. I can lie on my back and wonder, Why I've been treated so fine, And make love to her while we have tonight, I'll make love to her while we have tonight. Star you're a beautiful sight, Bring me your lovely light, I'll be a satellite, satellite. Star you're a beautiful sight, Bring me your lovely light, I'll be a satellite, satellite. I'll be a satellite, satellite, I'll be a satellite, satellite. __________ People lie with words all the time, but rarely do they lie with actions. |

Planets align, a king is born. Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Dodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis free, Buzz Aldrin, Armstrong, or maybe just me. Don't worry, it's coming. Don't worry, it's coming. Jesus on the dashboard. Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Yeah. Yeah! I turn on the radio. Hey kid, are you going my way? Hop in, we'll have ourselves a field day. We'll find us some spacegrass, Lay low, watch the universe expand. Skyway, permanent Saturday. Oh, by the way, Saturn is my rotary. Hop in, it'll be eternity Till we make it to M83. Once around the Sun, cruising, climbing. Jupiter cyclops winks at me, yeah, he knows who's driving. Hit neutral in the tail of a comet. Let the vortex pull my weight. Push the seat back a little lower. Watch light bend in the blower. Planets align. A king is born. Dodge Swinger. Jesus on the dashboard. Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Whenever it feels right Clutch - Spacegrass This message has been edited. Remember the title of the thread, "Favourite Lyrics"; and this is one I really like. What is interesting to me is the amazing night/day contrast between the lyrics and the music.
