While crossing the street one fine day, a woman agrees to fly off to Africa to be a seedy, stocky photographer's object de art. After lots of travelogue footage of wildebeests and baboons scratching their juju fruits, the portly picture taker gets the comely lass to strip off her standards and flash her Veldt all over the Dark Continent. As the perfectly perfunctory strangers learn more about each other, it seems that the street pick up is game for just about any jungle adventure, as long as it does not involve being tied up. Apparently that reminds her of being brutally raped as a teenager. After spending far too many minutes down that miscreant memory lane, we learn that our aqua-car traveling tramps (that's right, they left from France and traveled to Africa by aqua-car) have blown a gasket and cannot leave the crazy Congo without some manner of non-modern methodology.

A 20 something raised in an American cult which forbade all forms of media finds he is hyper attuned to to when the cult is terminated, in force, by the FBI.
Finishing his childhood in a series of foster homes he at last becomes a fully functioning adult. Well, an adult anyway. One who sees the semiotic ghosts of pop culture figures both real and fictional. He had Mr. Spock help him pick out a tie last week and breaks into vintage car collector's garages with James Dean.
But the leader of the cult has escaped from prison as it getting the flock back together and Jude is the only one who stands in their way.
A pop-mad overload of all the 20th century American zeitgeist from UFO's to the Cuban missile crisis, Way Out West is a hip ride through the American psyche you won't soon forget.

Every cellphone in the world suddenly rings at the same moment. All the owners pick up, not having heard the call of any phone but their own. The sound they hear reminds them - or at least, the ones who are old enough - of a dialup modem connecting, although perhaps under a few feet of stagnant mud. They listen for a few seconds, then look at each other, shrug and hang up. None of them ever mention it again.

In a film within a film a fan's slash tale of an encounter between Salma Hayek's character in From Dusk Til Dawn and Scarlett Johanson's character from The Island is being made, starring the original actresses. The fact that it was written by one of them comes out early, but it's not until the very last sex scene that we find out which.
