You could be right, but you might be surprised by mini-hums. Some of them (and there are plenty of aftermarkets available) have a really tight, gritty metallic attack in the bridge and then sing nice and sweet at the neck. I've got some hotrodded Duncan mini-hums in an LP Jr. Special like that. Sound kinda like a hot, compressed p90.

The rhythm piece at the beginning really sounds like my Duncans. And muddied and fuzzed up with some effects, the lead part would be doable with them, too.

HAHAHAHA! I went back and scanned through the vid for shots of the guitar. First noticed that there are no pole pieces showing on those pups and figured they were blades, then realized that they're Duncans. They've got something stamped on the covers which I think is the Duncan "S" that they put on all their mini-hums. None of Duncan's mini-hums have pole-pieces showing, either. Even the ones that aren't blades. Could be any Duncans, but I like the idea of my SM-3's being that close to cutie.

You're right. Nothing about that guitar makes it unable to produce those luscious sounds. Hey. They're not famous enough (yet) that the guy wouldn't answer questions about his tone (which is, by any rational asessment, fucking great). I'll ask him on facebook.

Whatever those pups are, I'll get some and put em on my Godin Freeway, which if it weren't for some weak pups, would outplay most $5000 axes.

Brother Chuck is putting Lollar P90s on his.

I'm gonna set one up for Twi. Guy oughta get one non-crockpot non-weedwhacker wedding present, I reckon.

Company of Thieves -- Even in the Dark (Acoustic) (very)

Kind of an impromptu outdoors thing. Shows a couple of things about this band.

1. Their sound isn't dependent upon the studio.

2. Yes. She's pretty fuckin cute.

I think they'll go far if they stay out of single-engine aircraft at rainy airports.

She looks unbelievably familiar. Can't remember who she reminds me of. Some girl I went to school with, no doubt.

And now to brutally kill the cuteness vibe:
Mark Lanegan, "Resurrection Song"

with Kevin Smith on guitar, no less.

I'm thinking seriously about going to the Soundwave festival in Brisbane in February. It's co-headlined by Faith No More and My Chemical Romance, and that's emblematic of the whole bill, but there are some good metal acts playing, and Alex likes the other half, so it should be a good day out. And a chance to see FNM is in itself not something to be missed...
