Reminds me of this funny child who misread the sign the other day.

For "brann" (fire), he read "barn" children-- and told me "Oops! lift must not be used by children!?"

(In case of fire, do not use elevator: Use the stairs.)

"Brann" is similar to German "Brennen" to burn which makes sense considering the near relation of the two languages. But I'm struck by "Barn"-children. It's very much like Scottish "Bairn". Those damn Vikings really did travel all over the island of Britain.

Somehow, I don't think that language lessons were the main point of the Norse trips to England. Just a guess, ya know.
