I just emailed my mother.

Hi mum,

Still trying to find my Qantas domestic booking. It's lost in their system somewhere. But basically, I should be arriving in Hobart on the 23rd Dec. As soon as I know, you know.

Not much else to report. Life is good, work is good (although I've basically lost August to overtime). As usual, summer ended before it began, so being at work is actually nicer.

I downloaded some audio, a loop of recorded tropical thunder storm. Have it playing in the background constantly so when I open the front door the sight of rain doesn't surprise me. :-)

I'll call you later in the week to catch up.

Love from Nick

Would this have made any sense to anyone living one thousand years ago?

Yes, much of it. Did you ever see any of those letters from (and to) the Roman at Vindolanda?

They talked about not having money, sending parcels with underwear and the like.

Too true, the methods change but the message remains the same. At least I don't post my clothes home to have them washed!

And what the hell do I know of the tropics? Lithos, I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.. attack ships on fire off the shoulder of orion (and so on).

Plus I watched a lot of David Attenborough as a kid, so I know it's green and leafy and the sound of crickets pervade throughout.
