In a similar vein to "look what the internet has brought me today", and the opposite of the "What am I selling on ebay" thread, and to collect together things that often get spread around other threads, like what Amazon has delivered today, I present the "Look what the postman has brought me today!" thread.

The little rocket pins at the bottom are really cute.

What do they commemorate?

They commemorate various Soviet InterKosmos missions. Basically where Soviet missions took a non-Soviet cosmonaut with them.

For example, the top left of the bottom set of pictures was a joint Russian-Vietnamese mission CR Soyuz 37-Salyut 6 where Major General Pham Tuan of the Vietnamese Airforce (2 kills including the only B-52 to be shot down during the Vietnamese war, both denied by the US) flew for 7 days 20 hours from 23/07/1980.

The top picture shows a variation of the bottom badges (matching mission top right again). The 2nd picture has the "official" Interkosmos symbol (matching mission is bottom row, 2nd from right).

Each one has a little bit of history behind it.

I should add, I was hunting on ebay for something else before Xmas when I found these badges and was inspired to buy them by Red Star, Winter Orbit, which is my favourite of the Gibson shorts, the recent X Prize success and the commercialization of space. I think there maybe a future market for historic space souvenirs.

Not today, but last week the postman brought a CD with a bunny in the cover. Independent US music, mostly, with some vintage Elvis Costello and my first taste of the Decemberists. Although the best piece, for me, is Mojo Nixon's Elvis is everywhere.

I also got my Amazon Christmas package, but I have listed that in the January reading thread.

Elvislution!

Perfect timing for this thread! Today was a great "get stuff" day, for me.

First, though not by post, I got my car back from the auto place. They washed and waxed it. Looks nice.

Second, by post:

The first wave of my latest book orders,
including the issue of Historical Archaeology
that has the much coveted gunflint article by
Nancy Kenmotsu.

Then, by FedEx:

For the Show. Recycled Platinum.

Today the postman brought me 2 tickets to Gothic Nightmares at the Tate Britain on March 25th.

Everytime I read the word Roomba I think people are talking about an Ewok.

Mailwoman, here. She usually stuffs the box with monthly bills and statements; but during a few times of the year, some intriguing cards and packages are reluctantly delivered. Mostly in batches, and on saturdays, as it seems she likes to see my expression when she arrives with all those strange postage stamps.

Past week deliveries: Cards. Annual payment bills. Interesting music. A little toy. A whiff of Aegean sea wind.

Well, mine does. She hasn't tried hers out yet.

Today, the postman brought a couple DVDs, still
more of the first wave of book orders, a journal I
hadn't been expecting, and three credit card
offers from the same company, and I already
have one of their cards!
Gah.

You aren't using it enough, evidently. Today I got a Little Sprout from somewhere in Canada.
