I'd get a kart if I had the time. Sears Point is not too too far away.

Just ordered ANATHEM and Rumble Strip, as well as Saturn's Children (Stross). Not sure about Stross. Didn't really like HaltinG StatE (that's how it is on the cover... please!) that much but I'm willing to have another read.

Before those arrive, I'm still going through all my Faulkner again at the rate of half-a-book-a-night.

To be honest, there are only 3 I drive right now. I have a ratty-ass PC that barely runs and I found Richard Burns Rally for $15. Dunno if it is still available anywhere but it is WELL worth up to $60, imho. Rally racing is hellishly hard compared to anything else I've done, but oh so rewarding, and RBR offers an extremely realistic feeling sim experience on both tarmac and dirt (snow, not so much, but there are patches to improve that).

For the PS2, I have Enthusia. It wasn't that popular, mostly because it is actually hard to drive, but probably the best driving sim for the PS2 you could get. The game format kind of sucked, but the actual driving is pretty great. They have a night toge run up/down a mountain called Dragon Range that is just awesome.

And finally, GT5P for the PS3 is what I'm currently driving the most. With "Pro" physics enabled, the cars handle very well. The cockpit views are beautifully done, and there is even decent online racing. (Although it is a bit of a mosh pit because it throws you in the races randomly so you end up with good, bad and just plain evil players all mixed in one race.) The demo link I posted doesn't look that great graphically, but you can see him fighting to keep the car from getting tail-happy through a number of turns. GT4, you would have just ended up in a powerslide.

EDIT: Added some YouTube links.

If you can get a hold of Grand Prix Legends for the PC, by all means you should do so. Released in '98, it is still by far the most realistic sim I know. Hard as hell, nearly everything on the car is adjustable, so getting set up can be a pain, but man is it satisfying to hook up a good lap. GPL lap

I also got my Rumble Strip today. I'm 100 pages in and enjoying it quite a lot. Very thought provoking and it articulates what sometimes percolates up in my mind. After seeing some things on Liveleak, I am more aware than ever that being on a sidewalk really doesn't mean much at all, in terms of safety.

I catched the last half of Paprika on TV last night. Damn, I had forgotten what a twisted ball of yarn it is.

I got a rather large parcel, full of silky, lacy goodness, but modesty prevents me from showing it to (most of) you.

Got this for a specific idea. It was cheap, but I was amazed at the quality. I think with some decent strings on it, it will actually sound damned good. Plays like a dream. The action is really nice. I was expecting a piece of crap and it's not.
