I think this was perhaps too difficult because more information is needed for most people to answer it.

So here is an additional clue.
He was a very famous 20th century doctor who's theories were "debunked" as fake by the FDA.

Sexpol author Wilhelm Reich?

This thread is the same as the beginning of a short story I'm working on. Been at it for 8 months. 1st person. I try working something out in the real world (which could easily be googled) so I feel more alive.

Then I meet some hippies.

And two talking bison.

I was a South Asian Religious Studies student at uni. This question caused some great debate in our department because no one seems to be able to accurately determine which of these two cities was settled first, so either answer will suffice until the debate comes to the minds of the WGB.

The question is:
What is the oldest, continuously inhabited city on earth?

Boogz, I don't know anything about Aleppo but at a point in my thought process I considered Damascus.

Jericho seems to be pretty clearly at or very near the top of the list according to most experts. However, Prof. Robert Lester, my thesis adviser who fluently speaks Sanskrit and Hindi, lived in Varanasi, India for 6 years would argue vehemently that Varanasi/Benares/Kashi is the true winner of the oldest, continuously inhabited city contest. Alternative ideas?

Here's a real mindfuck question that I don't think anyone can answer without a map.
If you drive the full length of Route 66 going east to west name the states, in order, that you will drive through on your killer roadtrip?

As one travels, one finds every mother culture claims its own "oldest continuously inhabited city". Athens makes a strong argument.

While the longest-lasting human civilization clocked in at 33-centuries (Kmt, "The Black Land", aka Egypt, corruption of Greek for Memphis), the rank of "oldest city" remains unsettled. Depends on one's definition of "inhabited" -- do squatters count? Etc.

I like the Assyrian and Mesopotamian candidates best, almost entirely for the splendor of their ruins. Realistically, however, the oldest continuously inhabited "city" is most likely an untrammeled subsistence farming village beside one of Egypt's pre-dynastic cemeteries (El Mahasna, Naga ed Der, etc.).

Besides those, probably Montignac and other population centers by painted caves.

What is William Gibson's middle name?

(Oh, nilcypher, Anabel -- it was Ankhesenamun; Ankh Esen Amun. She was a schoolboy crush of mine).
