I am so fortunate to enjoy a living author. I came to love the work of Gibson before Virtual Light came out.
Before Virtual Light I searched for everything I could find by Gibson. I was so thrill to have a new book by my favorite author, when Virtual Light was published. Followed later by Idoru, All Tomorrow's Parties and Pattern Recognition. I'm amazed at this much output. I read William Gibson slowly savory each chapter. I try to make them last. I feel like such a lucky creature to share a planet with the likes of Willaim Gibson. I started reading Gibson in used paperbacks, and started to feel guilty that this living author was paid for the sale of used copies. Since Virtual Light, I purchase Gibsons books over and over. I try to keep extra copies to share with other people. As every purchase is a vote of confidence. |

I wonder how writers make any money. I have brought of all W Gibson books in hardcover (except Neuromancer) upon first publication,
of that he must have earned about twenty something dollars in total, after the publisher's take. David Hartwell, the SF editor, has said that the average SF book generates about five thosand dollars of income for its author. Not much for a lot of work! |
