So, who's getting one?
3G, GPS, MobileMe, and allegedly half the price. I've still got a year left on my original iPhone and I have a bad feeling I'm gonna be handing over the readies on 11th July. This Mac habit is getting expensive, but I just can't quit it. -------------------------- A titanium wren never sings. |

Well, it's called an iPhone but they may as well have called it a Mini-Mac that happens to have a phone built in.
I think making phones calls falls about fifth on the list of things I use it for. -------------------------- A titanium wren never sings. |

when my current contract is up for renewal in October then I will seriously think about.. I'm fed up with Sony Ericsson phones after this one as it is so pathetically slow now its 7 months old.. takes 5 minutes to just get it off key lock (and orange won't do a damned thing about it).
Will need to see how decent the camera is for a start.. and how much they are in reality over here.. -------------- the future is nigh. with not much sleep |

They are becoming cheap enough for me to consider them now, but it will probably depend on how good the camera is. I haven't been impressed by the shots I've seen so far.
My current Sony Ericsson is v disappointing in that department after the brilliant camera on previous model so I could maybe be tempted... |

Yeah, $200 is getting into the realms of sanity though. If it was $250 in Oz I might consider it - if I didn't consider all mobile phones the smegma of Satan anyway.

Plus the real costs will be in the data charges anyway.

Considering I don't spend more than about £20 a year on calls and texts, I don't think I could ever justify getting an iPhone, or even upgrading my ancient pay-as-you-go Nokia.
However, viewing it as an MP3 player with bonus phone functionality, and a camera (if the camera is at least reasonable), then I could possibly be tempted if they sold a pay-as-you-go model. |

So the iPhone has now made it into the 21st century? And should it really sell for 127€ (199$), as the newspaper this morning says, without the stupid premium contract. It will be a reasonably priced product that is well capable to compete with the likes of the Sony Walkman phone or Nokia N95. It is even pretty enough to compete with the likes of the LG KE970 and B&O Serenata. Well done Apple.
So was there anything of relevance announced at this year's WWDC? What about the long promised security updated in Snow Leopard? ___________________________________________________________ "The best way to predict the future is to invent it." Alan Kay, 1971. |

Free, with a 2 year contract with 02. But, their mobile broadband is £20 a month, almost 3 times more than 3, which is something we would want with a phone on contract. They are also going to be doing a pay-as-you-go contract also. |

[hangs out trollbait on long pole for da haters]
I've wanted one since V1 was out, but I could never really justify the ongoing costs as I didn't really need heavy data connectivity. That has changed, so I'll be getting one. I'm not a luddite by any means, but I'll admit that cell phones have not been on my list of must have latest gadgets. And yes, I could get a N95 or a crackberry. And it's not like the iPhone does anything *that* different (aside from being faster, which, when your CRM system is virtual is important) but it does it better and more elegantly. Like all Apple products, what it does is not ground breaking; it's how it does it on a human scale. Having used my friend's non Apple smart phones, I defy anyone to tell me that Nokia's or RIMs OSs and GUIs are in any way, shape or form user friendly or intuitive. Besides, did I mention the iPhone is shiny... This space left intentionally blank |

02 data charges are notoriously high too, which is why I left them last time.. Though, Route79 says they will be coming down and becoming much more competative. Can you see me lasting with the same phone fro 2 years though? I start getting itchy after about 8 months! -------------- the future is nigh. with not much sleep |

I have a just barely less than 1-year old V1. I'm nosing around looking for a way to trade-up without taking too much punishment.
I'm frankly very happy with my iPhone. I'm always finding ways to leverage the connectivity. The other day I was was at dinner with friends, and right at the table we made a concert date, and I bought the tickets right at table-side over the Intarweb. Where it really pays off for me is doing musice research on-the-spot while browsing pre-owned albums in hole-in-the-wall shops. |

IT'S THE CONVERGENCE!
I thought v1 was too pricy, and I wanted to wait for 3G & and the next rev. So I'll be getting one next month when they start shipping. A word to all you nattering nabobs, PFFFT! Well, maybe that's just a sound. This is a phone, a computer, a camera, and an iPod, all in one handy-dandy package. No more lugging around a notebook computer, unless you really need the big screen and CPU power. I've been struggling with my Moto SLVR for a couple of years, and I gotta tell you, there's no comparison. Just try to find the damn calculator on the SLVR, or the alarm clock. It's like Steve says, "You can't even begin to figure out how to use 10 features on a normal phone!". I don't want to spend my time reading the manual and memorizing where crap is on my phone. I want to just use it. Plus, it's shiny. |

LOL, it's a camera that you can talk into and get ear prints on. Where I work, I would prefer a phone without a camera. You always have to turn them in before you can go anywhere. Its a pain.

If there was, it's all under NDA for now. Here's the only official crumb of information thus far. »» "Forget infinity. I've got books waiting for me to read them." — colin »»"Speculative novels of last Tuesday." — William Gibson |

Sure it is. David, you of all people, should know, that the camera you have on you when there's a good shot, is the best camera in the world. Is a pinhole camera a "camera"? A Holga? An SX-70? If it records "light patterns reflected or emitted from objects", it's a camera. Believe me, I appreciate your film snobbery, but if all I have on me, when I open that door and catch Bill Gibson & Xeni Jardin naked and covered with salsa verde, is an iPhone, I'll be glad to call it a camera and start snapping away. Oh yeah, phone, camera, computer, iPod, and GPS. Not to mention the shininess. |
