Fuck, Justy I am jealous. One of these days I am going to have to make the trek to see Skinny Puppy. It'll be a haul too. Wish I hadda known they were playing in Norfolk. Might have made the drive for it, although it was probably on a night I was working.

10.10.2009 Blechreiz, Die Tornados, DaS KArtell @ SO36

DaS KArtell were first. Had never heard of them and thought them only fairly good but they grew on me. Solid band.

First time I used ISO 1600 film. Cool stuff, I'm quite pleased with the results.

Die Tornados I had seen before and knew they were awesome. Good show but they weren't pushed to their full potential, the audience was somewhat dumb in that respect.

If I have to repeat myself about Blechreiz, you haven't been paying attention. New opening song: "Let there be Ska", an AC/DC cover.

They had a guest singer and did 'You're the one that I want' from 'Grease'.

Dammit, too many good shows, too little money.

Devin Townsend band is on this Friday night, which I'd love to have seen but can't really afford. Still negotiating with the Exchequer about taking Alex to the Soundwave festival: Paramore for her (and a few others of her faves), Faith No More (!), Anthrax, Meshuggah, Isis, Trivium and a number of others for me and Placebo for both of us...

Aw, man, now you're making me feel thoughtless. The Norfolk show was on a Saturday, and the DC show on Sunday...

Next time... which might not be that long from now, since the new album has a release date (June-ish). There's new OhGr stuff due, maybe an OhGr tour, then I hope Puppy tours again within the next year or two. I can't believe how busy those guys are.

23.10.2009 Ensiferum/Metsatöll/XIV Dark Centuries/Tracedawn/Mortjuri @ F-Haus, Jena

Quite a long way to go for a concert. Jena is about 270 km from Berlin but we wanted to see Metsatöll and it was either Jena or Hamburg. And Hamburg would have been a weekday.

Gates weren't open when we arrived so we went to eat something (which took so long to prepare that we missed the first band, Mortjuri. No idea if I missed much.

Tracedawn was the first band we did see. They were good in the way of young Finnish bands. Good but nothing special.

XIV Dark Centuries sucked. At least we thought so. Everybody else was quite ecstatic. The big local thing I guess. Silly customs and silly props. The whole LARP thing. If I ever went as far as making shields I probably would invest more care then just nail something together from the home improvement market.

Metsatöll were totally worth the long car ride (even for me, the designated driver). Perfect blend of Folk and Metal, more serious then Korpiklaani, with much dedication to what they do.

Ensiferum aren't my thing. They are good but leave me cold. We left before they finished.

5.12.2009 Skanta Klause @ ABC Rocks

Check the location several times cause I had never heard of the place before (turned out to be a youth club) and could believe it to be real (it was). Four bands for 5€ if you were early and in addition you got some Christmas cookies.

Drunken Skunx were first. That definitely looks like a name to be really embarrassed about later in life. But they are young and probably don't care. They weren't exactly bad but should still practice some more and for the beginning stick to covers.
