One I just remembered last night:

It's a slippery slope for every submission here -- but some more than others. Like Primer . . . overlooked?
Plus this previous comment, "Real Genius immediately evokes an entire subgenre of mid 80's movies. Kid geniuses, with enough electronic junk, can do anything. The closest we come today are independent emaciated z-budget self-serious Primers and etc." ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "No blossoms wither so quickly as yesterday's tomorrows." --Disch "He looked upon us as sophisticated children: smart but not wise." --said of Ishi |

UberDog, I can understand your feelings.
For me, the movie typifies Milwaukee, Midwest, working class, "Average Joes", yearning to be worldly and famous. I find "Mike" to be both adorable and unintentionally hilarious. |

This one surprised me. It's a fine movie, with excellent and interesting performances. ----------------------------- "It may be said with rough accuracy that there are three stages in the life of a strong people. First, it is a small power, and fights small powers. Then it is a great power, and fights great powers. Then it is a great power, and fights small powers, but pretends that they are great powers, in order to rekindle the ashes of its ancient emotion and vanity. After that, the next step is to become a small power itself." --GK Chesterton, "Heretics" |

Yes. Yes Yes Yes Yes. Another of my favorite films. And my favorite character.... Abner Mercer. I can only hope to be as good as Geoffrey Lewis in my own film. The guy is a superb craftsman. |

Thank you! I wish! The writer and director, Christopher McQuarrie (also The Usual Suspects) is so good though, he actually got a decent performance out of Ryan Phillippe. That's nearly impossible. |

My friend Adam introduced me to it last month. Instant favorite.
John Getz is a synonym for 80's corporo-sleaze! Incidentally, he's also in The Fly II! ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "No blossoms wither so quickly as yesterday's tomorrows." --Disch "He looked upon us as sophisticated children: smart but not wise." --said of Ishi |

I saw it when I was... geez, it was 1990, so I was 16, and I still remember it was enjoyable...

Couldn't believe Keith David. He's like Apone's brother or something. The "sacred fries" speech . . .
Wish I'd seen it when I was 16. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "No blossoms wither so quickly as yesterday's tomorrows." --Disch "He looked upon us as sophisticated children: smart but not wise." --said of Ishi |

Keep in mind, I haven't seen it *since* I was 16 (caught bits and pieces, but never a sustained viewing), so my memory is a bit fuzzy. :/
