It says they are also honoring "renowned cyber-artist Richard M. Powers". Below is a picture of his, one of those that requires its title to hit its mark:

Cool! I'll probably try to get a ticket, but I wouldn't be surprised if members snap them up before they go on sale to the public.

The robot's just a decoy to throw the pope off his trail. Fella's crafty like that.

Jack Womack coming to town, too. Not sure Seattle can handle that much grit. We'll have to re-open the whorehouses and go back to sliding trees down skid row to keep from looking too candy-ass.

Wait, Rod Serling wasn't already in this thing? Is this the Hall of Fame that started a few years back?

Because you'd have to assume that Sterling should have been in a long while ago. Gibson mostly too, but that's only 20 years as opposed to 40.

I think Gibson's going there will do a lot to legitimize the museum if it is the new one I am thinking of.

Here si the info page from their site. They were founded in 1996, but the building and Seattle locale are new.

Doh! Totally forgot about this. I'll have to check on tickets tomorrow. A little flippin' steep, though.

I'm going! If you're not a coward, you'll go too. Yeah, all of you.

[crickets]

Okay fine, I'll drool at Womack all on my own.

Say hello to Bill and Jack from us Splitcoil. Wear something that will make you conspicuous, like a hat or something Smile

Um.

I am going to have to pop in there.

How did I miss this?

I live next to the damn thing...I need to work less.

Steal us a monogrammed napkin! Or some silverware! Or one of the specially-made cyberpunk-styled plates, with the gold PCB motif around the edges that they'd better have!

Sorry to have taken so long. Work intervened a bit.

The event was a good bit of fun. No other wigbers were spotted. You wretched cowards.

The Sky Church is a good venue for this sort of thing. Visually interesting even if it is, in WG's words, a little too Cirque du Soleil.

Our gracious WG was in fine form and joy of joys, I finally got to meet Jack Womack. Introduced by WG, no less. Both Jack and WG were conspicuous in the room as high functioning scifi people, each with more fashion sense in a single belt loop than the rest of the room displayed altogether. Womack was wearing a vintage 70s "Suits by Telly" number (the fashion sense of Telly Savalas being the only thing of lasting value salvaged from the 1970s, in his estimation), and shoes straight out of Terraplane. They were kind enough to pose for a quick snap.

I stood and chatted with them for a few minutes before things kicked off, though truth be told I didn't have much of substance to say and was happy merely to play the fanboy and listen to them riff off each other.

Eventually, the proceedings kicked off. The opening remarks and a few of the other presentations tended toward being over-long and full of personal reminiscences that did little to commend the speakers as writers. But overall, even when they ran long, they were fairly educational (to me). Standouts were of course Womack, whose presentation on WG was razor sharp, direct, and concise, keying in on how WG's insight into our present made it seem as strange as any SF; WG's short acceptance speech which focused mainly on quick remarks about some of the other inductees which did just as much to highlight their significance as the drawn-out sermons by presenters; the presentation for Richard Powers, including a slide show of some of his work behind the speaker; and the bio on Rod Serling by a very glossy, but also very personable and insightful Marc Zicree. The presentation on the Ballantines was really quite long, but there were nuggets of gold there, and an impressive display of old Ballantine covers rolling behind the speakers.

I despise taking pictures, and I'm no good at it. But I knew I'd be flogged if I didn't bring back more, so here are the best of them:
Womack's intro

More Womack

Gibson (far right) watching Womack talk about Gibson

Some more Womack

The street finds its own uses for Womack

Gibson and Johnny (whoa)

Gibson and VL

You get the idea

Teh Gibson, laser etched in the Hall of Fame. Shortly after taking this, I was jumped by the same security guy who'd jumped me earlier for having a knife (which he'd noticed, black clip and black FRN handle on dark black denim in dim lighting--impressive). Absolutely no pictures whatsoever were allowed.

Miscellaneous...
Powers art

Serling presented

Some Ballantine covers, probably including some more Powers art

Alas, that's all she wrote. I took off afterward, rather than pester the Gibson any more. When I left, he was surrounded by a flock of chicks.

Hope everything worked out well in the end for you, chief.

I stepped up on the platform.
The man gave me the news.
He said, "You must be joking, son -
Where did you get those shoes?"
