The way I see it, you have a two step process. First you need to generate buzz about the contest, then buzz about the results of that excursion.

You need artists coming to the site but you need, more importantly (or of equal importance) industry types coming to the site.

You need to get together bloggers talking about it. I know that many artists/creators have their own blogs and, if the world is anything like publishing in general, other types inside the industry will have their own blogs.

This gent, Dennis Cass, was recently blogged about all over the book industry after he made a non-trailer trailer for his book. It was pretty clever and the industry took notice. His sales went up. I've been toying with the idea of making a book trailer for my book that hasn't been sold yet. Generate buzz.

On the other hand, you can't really Astroturf as people now can smell that from three links away. You need to be direct and earnest (which it seems you are) but you need to include some avenues by which it might take off virally.

The goal is for you to get a job in the industry, right?

I've looked into the writing aspect, there are several companies that will look at just a script. getting paid work on a series is another matter.

At any rate: build buzz.

some rep in the industry at least. the plan would be to send the release to the blogs on my blog roll and various industry sites.

Do you think that would be enough?

It may be, hard to say. I contacted Brian Wood a few weeks ago and he told me the industry was really small, so small he didn't have representation.

So, it could be that's all you would need.

How are you going to get these industry types to see a whole script though? I mean, the artists will draw a few panels maybe, right?

How do you get your bread buttered in this?

As far as getting my bread buttered, I will consider this a success if I come out of it with some artists knowing my name.
