Not that I agree with him, but a Rusian acquaintance of mine thinks (and I suspect this is a widespread idea in Russia) that this is almost the same as NATO on Kosovo. From there it quickly becomes the "Great Western Conspiracy against Slavs", and then he leaves Yugoslavia to mention Grenada and Panama as similar examples. The most worrisome (as an EU apologist) is lumping us in that monolithic, US-led West that more or less cracked in 2003. Cold War indeed. As for the Games, I intend to see as little as possible. For the moment, my wife is using headphones for the TV.

Ah, Mikey Diamond's still in the running. Good work. Think he hit his missus a few times, though.

I know. Each of the two Wests has its different pathologies to deal with at the moment. I'd like to see a wealthy, peaceful Europe take a strong stand on this without us getting involved. But then, military adventurism is a sinful habit I indulge in along with my countrymen. Still. If it can happen on the fringe of Europe, unimpeded, then what hope for the rest of the world? Anyway. Best of luck to all the Olympians. I've never gotten into it myself, but I'm a poor athlete.

Can't believe I missed it, but I've been deliberately de-looped the last few days. Then again, I sure that's what Russia was aiming for, media stealth. Same reason pollies'll announce their wide-reaching health care cuts on a Sunday. But can the US afford to get involved?

I am watching the woman's team archery competition live right now and Korea just set a new world and Olympic record in the team competition beating Italy (which broke it's own former Olympic record of 215 with a phenomenal performance of 218 points) with a near perfect score of 231 out of 240 points. They are unbelievable!!!
