The 49er result should be anecdotical, but as the Olympics are no longer a competition between athletes but a competition between countries (including flags and names), it gets muddled. I hope they keep the medal (both the Italian and the Spanish sailing federation intend to complain upwards), as it shows the right stuff and courage to keep on, through any means available, rather than surrender.

You haven't seen much muay thai, have you? Watchin' a 90lb guy smash an elbow into the other guy's face...the only thing that snapped was the cartilage in the other guy's nose. Would've been the last thing the other guy felt before he lost consciousness.

the cycling gets more and and more random.. We now have the Mens Madison.. quote: Teams of two riders compete over 200 laps of the 250 metre track, a total distance of 50kms.
Riders score points in sprints, held every 20 laps, scoring five points, three points, two points and one point for each of the first four across the line.
Teams can also gain laps – and it is laps rather than points that count most.
A team can win if they gain a lap even though other teams may have scored more points.
Only one rider in each team is actively in the race at any one time and teams 'tag' their team-mate in at regular intervals.
The rider must touch his team-mate to change over, but usually this is done with a handsling to propel the other rider into the race at high speed.
When the race starts you will see a group of riders racing around the inner part of the track marked by a black line running right around the innermost part of the track.
While this group of riders is racing their team-mates will be circling higher up the track recovering from their efforts.
When a rider is getting tired his partner will drop down and be thrown into the race by means of a handsling.

Phelpsie's cut a swathe through the medal records. Call me cynical, but I'm kinda expecting one of those baseball players to milk some cash from it, saying he and Phelps used to drive down to Mexico together and got some HGH from a nice chemist named Javier. All the time. Last time was eight months ago, and he got a year's supply.
