I spotted a kangaroo warning sign a while back with a dead kangaroo at its base... one of those days you wish the camera had come along for the ride.

It's amazing what some people will put on signs...I honestly think that they need proof-readers sometimes... and with that in mind I try to take a picture of them whenever I see one that doesn't quite say what it means to...

Now I must find the CD which contains my pictures of interesting signs....hmmm... I know they're around here somewhere...

I can't seem to find them... but I shall continue looking... particularly for the one that says:
Slow
Children Playing

These go up every year around New Year's:

Lots of small business owners around here seem to need to broadcast their religious affiliation:

This one cross-posted from Gibsonian. Left over from the mid-terms. Wish I had gotten more of them, but this one was the most surreal:

Fun without guns? Surely that sentiment's un-American, and merely gives comfort to the Enemy?

Shake: folks here are given to celebrating the New Year by taking their guns outside and firing them into the air at midnight. "What goes up must come down." People die from bullets returning to earth. Hence this public service campaign.[pedant/]

If you was just kiddin' plz ignore the above. Big Grin When I first moved to this city I was confused by those signs as well.

BTW, Bravus! Excellent thread. A thread whose time has come. (I was actually considering starting this one myself! Good show!)

Couple of years ago, I used to walk a block down to the river at the stroke of every New Year's Midnight. Smoke a cigar. Watch the fireworks. Listen to the M2 Browning .50 caliber heavy machine gun thumping out rounds a couple miles away across the water at the Mohawk reservation.

Manhattan's somewhat quieter.

On the Thames River Bank-- next to the London Eye-- I photographed the Victorian dolphin-clutched lamp post anyway:
