Ah. Yes, tell your partner that those in-room coffee pots are kind of like the flotation devices in planes. They're just there to tick off an item on a check sheet. They're not intended for actual use. They're only worth a damn if you do as I do on long stays and buy the appropriate filters and some decent coffee at the store. Never use the coffee they provide.

Chicago's a frustrating coffee town. There's some decent coffee there, but it's pretty sparsely distributed.

Edit: You can tell I'm an avowed Seattleite, as availability of coffee is my prime consideration when evaluating any travel destination.
