More than 3 foot, I daresay. I couldn't paddle out in it and live, so I was forced to ride the slop all weekend. I'm thinking more like 10-15 foot (note the people/dots in the whitewater to scale).

But yeah, if you were a good surfer, it was probably a fine fine day. I'm just rubbish still and always will be.

I am also considering buying my own board again. Fuck all this rental crap. I just don't have a car and I live in, er, London, so it seems a bit dim.

Reading, meanwhile, is an activity subsequent to writing - more resigned, more civil, more intellectual.

Yeah, I'd call it 6-8ft but wicked fun IF you can get outback and then only IF the wind wasn't too strong to get the mal nose down the face on take-off. Horses for courses, sit back a few days until the swell drops off and its only 2ft offshore, then get back in with your new found paddle fitness and balance (much more difficult to ride big white water than glassy clean swell) and have a ball. Its a waiting game.

Hey, don't diss yourself. The best surfer on the beach is the one having the most fun. Hell of a lot to be said for that - its not a sport, more a search for the inner child for most of us; fun = stoke. All good.

Do you longboard, then?? Fistral seemed to be all about the gnarly, dude shortboarders. I'm much more into longboarding myself, although it's a goddamn bastard getting the big board outside on short period days and making steep takeoffs.

Two foot and glassy and 8 feet of plank is my idea of a really beautiful day. I'm very close to booking a trip to Spain in September to see if I can get conditions like that.

It's a damn shame I'm all landlocked now. Charlie don't surf the Thames.

alternate between a retro 9'2 single fin mal and a 7'6 single fin egg at the mo. Love riding a longboard in clean head high conditions; wicked early entry and some hair raising back of the board drops. Loving it. Missed out today, work obstancles tomorrow, but Thursday lunchtime looks like a nice slot.

Spain sounds good. Considering SW France next month. Heard N.Spain gets punchy in Sept.
