Yep it was on, but turning it off didn't help as much as I would've thought.
I have three physical drives, one of which is partitioned into two logical drives. None of this helps the fact that I'm running out of space on the C: drive. The best bet would most likely be to reformat the whole thing and build from scratch. Not something I really want to do. -- Fanaticism is nowhere. Maybe you need to delete some of your robo-porn?

It's practically impossible to connect your computer to the internet and not have porn download itself onto your hard drive these days...

Nuking shouldn't be seen, IMHO and on Windows, at least, be seen as some sort of last ditch procedure. View it more as regular maintenance, like changing the oil in the Marshdriftmobile.
Windows just feels so much more...cleaner and fresher. For about the five minute you abstain from going online. The Lithos School of Curiousity is now enrolling |

How odd, and here I'm using the same install of the OS X operating system that I've gradually been upgrading since OS X Public Beta. [/windowsbaiting] |

Well, it was never necessary with previous versions of Windows. I tells ya, I'm really not liking the XP. Maybe I should go back to 2000. -- Fanaticism is nowhere. There's no tenderness or humanity in fanaticism. - Joe Strummer |

Have you tried the "disk cleanup" button? It gets all those annoying temporary windows and internet files too.

You don't even have to connect to the internet. If you're male it just grows there. Like a fungus. |

Before doing that check what MS is doing with on line activation. I read somewhere that they won't do any more in an effort to stop activation of copies. Don't know details, but that has prevented me from formating, once again. ______________________ Philip K. Dick is dead, alas! |

So, I have the new Solaris 10 and want to try it.
Do I have to format and install from scratch or can I just install while having Windows installed as well and select OS on startup? And if I decide to switch and get rid of Windows will all my programs work with Solaris. Not reffering to Office, obviously. ______________________ Philip K. Dick is dead, alas! |

Solaris and Windows use different file system types. Unless you've got an unused partition on your hard drive, you'll probably either need to format or install it on another drive. If you can do it, I'd recommend installing it on seperate computer. Solaris can't run Windows software out-of-the-box. There are software emulators out there that will allow you to do so. In my experience, they're more headache than it's worth. Solaris does have software that will allow you share files with Windows systems over the network. Majority of my Solaris experience is on Sun systems, so most of the above is anecdotal or hearsay. Your mileage my vary. |

Anyone here with experienece running a dual boot Win vX and Linux system? I'm thinking of dumping everything but my music software (ProTools, won't play nicely with Linux) into a new boot HD running Linux. Then strip out everything but the Win OS and ProTools on the other HD and never, ever let it see the internet again.
Also, any recommendations on Linux varients and GUI flavas? This space left intentionally blank |

I've spent a lot of time with Mandrake, a little with SuSE and some with 'JaMD' (a Redhat variant). Mandrake is a really nice first Linux, and makes setting up the dual boot really easy and painless. SuSE is there as well, and if I were buying a box that's probably what I'd get. Others with wider experience may have other options. Your plan sounds good to me.
Oh, on the GUI front I've also played with both Gnome and KDE, and tend to prefer KDE, but that's a personal preference. I've played with a few of the more minimal ones as well, but that's something that's not hard to do - I'd suggest going with KDE first to get set up and comfortable. ________________________ differently mediated |

Given that dual-booting is such a widely used feature, I think it should be reasonably reliable. Just read the instructions carefully and go for it.
I managed to do that with FreeBSD and Windows 95 (!) on an old laptop, and it worked just fine. (Why FreeBSD? Because I like well organized and bare-bones things, and because I could install it fairly easily even though my CD-ROM drive was broken. FreeBSD: The OS that will even run on broken old crap. This has been a paid parenthetical aside.) |
