Hi fuldog. You are one of many who tried to alert me. I have, also, multiple delivery failures in hotmail I am proud to see. No one but one contact thought it was me, thank the gods.

I've sent notices via my gmail. Hope I didn't miss someone, though. Arkan, heads up! I didn't include you I now recall. Sorry.

I hope all will be better in the a.m. [I KNOW, wishful thinking!]

Thanks all.

Hotmail remains uncooperative. Gee, I really hate to lose some of the archival stuff.

I am hoping the answer to this isn't 'reinstall windows' because I hate that.

When I left click on my win vista machine the options box that opens is not visible until I mouse over it.

So if I want to change the properties of a given icon, I must left click, then mouse over the box until the 'properties' button becomes visible and then I can select it.

Annoying but it does not really affect the way the system operates.

Any ideas?

Don't have Vista, but maybe it's one of those stupid menu special effects gone wrong? In XP, I would try going to Control Panel | Display, select the "Appearance" tab, click "Effects" and turn off the "Use the following transition effect for menus and tooltips". Of course on Vista this will be in a completely different place, or in fact be controlled by a whole new set of knobs and dials, in the name of progress.

What does Vista call that feature? Aerogel or something? It can be turned off, I believe....

Anabel, I know it's a shot in the dark but when hotmail is back up and running for you, you could try sending them an email about it? The same thing happened to my account about a year ago, and whatever mojo they did got it to stop.

On an unrelated note, I replaced both the hard drive and ram on my little old Power Book G4. This is the first time I've played with the guts of one of my computers since I was building 286 and 386 boxes. Huzzah!

Hi Crow Girl!
Thanks for the suggestion. I fired off a request for hotmail to track and stop my account from spamming and sent them a copy of one of the undeliverable returns. It has some refs at the bottom. Maybe they can figure it out
I also asked that they report back to me.

We'll see. For now, it looks like the one spam blast has been the only one.

"Dearie me. Dearie me." [Is this thought from AiW?]
Now, how to save the archive before I cancel the account...

Have you gone in and changed your password? It might not make a difference, depending on the nature of the problem, but it couldn't hurt.

Whoah. Just dodged a computer bullet. Secondary HD was making "chunk" noises for a while. Couple of weeks ago, bought a smallest SATA drive I could find, which was a 1TB (!!). Had copied the files from the secondary drive to it, and all the software links to I could find. Old secondary drive literally just smoked itself. Smelly smoke and sizzling noises.

*BUT* now, I can't get windows to find my new Secondary drive. aargh.

Yeah. I did. It's not reporting the size of the new secondary disk properly. Frown

the last time you used it was to back up the other drive? what method did you use to back the data up? was some kind of software involved that may need to be running in order to see the backup?

Um. No. Bad me. Not a back up drive. A storage drive. Bad computing practices. And for some reason stupid windows is now calling the new secondary drive disk0 and the old OS drive Disk1. I need to sleep...

Whew. Sweating time is over. Somehow the stupid drive, the new SATA one, had somehow had it's CHS/LBA values set small. SeaTools for DOS boot disk, and I has diskspace again.

awesome!

Does anyone use Blender? I installed a new version recently, and it auto updated my Python, but for some reason it has no scripts. WTF?

EDIT: I guess I deleted the earlier version before installing, and whatever package I grabbed from the Blender website assumes you will be installing over an old version, or something?

Anyway, I grabbed their zip version which is just what shows up after you install and threw it in my folder. Now all the default scripts are there....

Weird. Just got a message from Wikipedia saying that my changes to an article about a Turkish soccer club were rejected.

Don't ever recall making a change about said club, nor ever being that much of an expert on soccer, let alone Turkish soccer.

Hmmm. Maybe it's because I forgot to disable wireless settings on my router, or something to do with my dynamic IP. Any ideas?

This machine has been randomly crashing. D/led something to monitor temps and discovered that the CPU fairly rapidly got to 98C when playing Far Cry. That can't be good for it... Currently researching some more industrial-grade cooling solutions...

I just had an idea. Wonder whether I can get a Sabbatical whose express purpose is to let me learn Flash and Blender. Wink

Couple of what looked like the bridges were showing a stable 127C and I'm not sure if that's real or a measurement artifact.
