i resize mine in photoshop & then go through the 'save for web' thing till i reach the balance bewtween res & file size.

same too big thing thing used to happen to me, can't remember off hand how small the files have to be to squeak through. often i just had to tweak the dimensions and or resolution a tad to get em through.

ED: but how will i be able to post pics here along the way? would internet cafes let me upload stuff? and spend money on more chips?

Hmmm, I don't really have experience with the net cafe scene. Naturally, you could take your USB cable with you, but whether they would be able to accommodate a straight hookup of the camera is anyone's guess. Reading DT's happy little install saga, I'm guessing the answer at Window's-based shops is a resounding no...

see that's the thing. even if i do come across the odd friend's computer, i'd have to go installing software everywhere. my daughter has her own camera and i'm not kidding, takes absolutly reams of photos all the time. at home, we can hook the camera up, transfer the hundred or so shots (peppered with vids) and then delete a lot.

that's a good question misty. i usually take my laptop with me, and when my card gets full, transfer to the hard drive and erase the card for a fresh "roll". i'm using a 2 megapixel camera with a 128MB card, and it can take about 150 to 200 pics at the highest quality setting. probably you should invest in a huge card, of course if something happens to it, then you could lose like 1500 pics at once instead of 150....

i don't recall where you are going, but around my house, you can take a card into most pharmacy or discount store's one hour photo department and have them transfer the card contents to CD for you.... if you're not having any photos made or printed, it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes....

i think most places we go we should be able to do the CD thing. (round the UK & then paris). we ain't got no laptop. my girl has a 256MB card, she can get almost 400 shots on it. we don't have a card for ours, we should probably get one. maybe we could try for a 512mb, give that to the paparazette and we could have her 256 one.

Heh heh, most likely if you're having trouble on a Mac, it means you're overthinking things. Smile

Seriously, having spent approx 1 hour to get my Driving Force Pro steering wheel working on my Windoze box last Friday, I can see how people are terrified of computers. I play IT guy at work and I still ended up cursing and pounding the table at one point. Would you believe that you're not allowed to change the settings of a Logitech device unless you're in an admin account?!? So there went all my care in creating a dumbed-down semi-secure gaming only account 'cause Logitech can't write their prefs from there! Grrrrrrr.

it's pretty much the opposite these days. the macs come with more than you could possibly need and the windows stuff is all crap that needs to be replaced. like with more microsoft products.... hmmmmm....

hmm.. you mean, these are all USB ports? you should just be able to plug the caera into a free port and be done with it. possibly you didn't tell the computer you wanted to unplug something and now it's being fussy. nothing a reboot wouldn't probably address.

Not really, fruity. Most cameras will be recognised under XP as a removable storage device, and that's really only a hurdle to those too lazy to cut and paste into a new folder.

By the way, if you're looking for cheap and easy photo storage...Hotmail has a 250meg inbox limit. Mail 'em to dummy accounts, though the upload might take a while. Access them anywhere in the world.

Even better if you can snag a Gmail account.

I deal with netcafes all the time when I go to Katerini to visit my folks. Often take the USB cable with me too.
If the place is running on Windows NT (and they always are) then I got no problem. It's plug and play.
My only problem would be if no USB port was available on my station. Some places do that on purpose so that they make you go up to the register for it. They want to charge you even for uploading stuff, not just downloading.
