Yeah, sadly that 45-day demo of VPC isn't for the Mac at all... but maybe Bravus is talking about using it *on* a PC, in which case, good luck, cause it's still something you need to install... Wink

[taking calming deep breaths]

My browser history is only displaying history from today. I have it set to save history for 9999 days (which is the max) because I forget things and have to go find them again.

WHERE'S MY MOTHERFUCKING HISTORY?!?!

I'm running the latest firefox.

After checking the browser preferences like you did, my suspicion would then look for any spyware remover you might run, hurts. It could be there is a default setting to clear your private data (history, saved passwords, history of recent computer activity, etc).

Do you use Windows on the machine in question?

I do, but no spyware stuff that does anything without my permission.

I'm starting to get suspicious of my roommate.

Oh, well definately check the roommate preferences. Wink

If that's the case, you might setup a separate account for the roommate? Takes all of two minutes in Windows.

Yeah I've done that. But occasionally I leave the computer logged in as me, and then she just uses it.

I'd be totally blown away if she cleared the history though. It seems very unlike her. Once she closed a window of mine with a couple moz tabs open, and apologized profusely.

Firefox makes a profile, which I believe is where it stores its history and stuff. Have you manually investigated? I see a "history.dat" file in there. Unfortunately I don't see a history.bak... Frown

But at the very least, you can duplicate that file before you start experimenting with trying to see if it's broken somehow.

Also, does latest mean 2.0b1 or just 1.5.0.4? 'Cause beta can just be that way sometimes...

I did 3.11 tech support on multimedia products.
Nothing rotted like that did.

Autoexec.bat
Config.sys
Win.ini
System.ini

And all with different arcane driver requirements for different chipsets and soundblaster "compatible" cards.

I'll never forget the PCMCIA CD-ROM Portable SONY PRD-150 and it's technical gems either.

How is an ordinary individual out of the box supposed to know what an interrupt is?

Or how to do an Easy install on a hard disc with a Master Slave Jumper setting with poorly marked Ribbon Cables that seem oh so similar to the ones that connect to the 5 1/4 inch drives that you had to DISCONNECT to put the computers back together back then...

Actually, it's still doing it.

Only today's history is currently displayed, and the history from the other day is gone. I'm hoping that this is a display issue, and that Firefox still remembers all my history, it's just hiding it from me...

Figured it out.

Firefox somehow got set to clear history whenever the browser is closed, so even though the main history tab in preferences says to keep pages for 9999 days, the more options dialog actually has the box checked to clear it whenever the browser is closed.

Lost... all lost....

Hurts, sounds like you need some sort of rolling backup on your browser history file so you can retrieve 7 days (and 7 history files) back if you need to. Hopefully that would be enough time to catch if it got flushed again before the emptied history file started overwriting all your cached ones.

There must be either a Firefox plugin or a Windows proggie to do that somewhere! I've known other users who also used the history as a storage bin and they too got hozed eventually. I don't think the main browser programmers really understand that model of history usage very well.

It'd be very easy with a regular Mac (even easier than with a PC), but it might be extremely tricky in an iMac. Those things are once chunk of hardware, and i have no idea what their internal layout is like.

What's the model? This:

This:

Or the even cooler this:
