Well HB, i'll try and get to it.

Be Gentle. The hideous bitch goddess that is Telstra has deemed me unfit to have broadband, so hi-ping hell for me!

Tried it, HB. Got a "Patch 'de' version" error.

You did mean UT, original, right? Just checking.

I'd run a server, but dial up is hell for that!

Run CTF Facing worlds, pls!

Blast! No clue what a patch de error is. Possibly something to do with the fact it's still 4.36? Well, I better haul it down again and see if I can figure out what's going on tomorrow. Frown

But, dammit man (I love that phrase, soooo 19th century!), where's DX and Fallout's and Torments and TLJ's and Perfect Darks, and Undyings?

You aren't alone in your lamentation.

The stories are too thin, or you have the extreme's like Metal Gear Solid 2.

Perhaps the closest thing to actual writing at the moment is the noir of Max Payne, which is somewhat lacking.

Companies probably like to stick with the 'keep it simple' philosophy of feature films. If you don't know what the film/game is about from the outset, it isn't a hit.

I'm actually at a dead end in terms of gaming at the moment, to the point that I replayed super mario world about a month ago and found it pretty damn entertaining.

I would set up a server were it not that:

a) i do not have the game anymore
b) i'm at work
c) i'm not going to be behind my computer for the comnig three weeks anyway.

But if the UT buzz is still arround three weeks from now i'll do some effort to get the game back and then i can serve as well (i've got DSL which should do).

Actually, for Windows and Linux there are patches up to 4.51 at the Unreal Tournament Protection Group. Naturally, no such animal exists for the Mac version, because they have to port it to OS X and *then* add the patches. Since it's basically one guy doing it for free, it's gonna be a long time (or never) before it happens, I'm betting.

Hee hee hee hee hee.....

My old screen finally died, so I just got a new one. It's a 14-inch, super VGA from 1995. It was free. It can work at 800 x 600, and since apparently I have a 38-gig hard drive, I'm all set for Unreal Tournament.

I must've futzed a few settings in Interent Exploder, though, because I can't seem to get new windows to open maximized, full-screen. They open centered in the middle, smallish, and I have to hit F11 for them to fill the display. Does anyone remember where those settings can be altered so that they fil the screen on opening, with just a minimalist strip of toolbar across the top? It's been so long that I can't find them any more.

Use another browser. Please. For your sake.

IE is the most useless, bloated, slow piece of browsing software out there. Sorry, that's the geek talking.

It's not that hard to learn how to use Opera or Firefox. Please.

While I agree with the comments that you should
switch to a different browser, that sort of "fix"
is a personal pet peeve and really doesn't help
you with your problem.

I believe that you should be able to reset your
browser's viewing state by setting it to how you
want it, then closing it. Try opening it again
before shutting down. It should open up fully
again. Be sure to manually close the browser
before shutting down your computer or Windows
may try to reset the default state (not sure
about that, but I'm a tad paranoid).

Or as one of those more cost efficient solutions:
Get Linux. Smile

Yeah, I know. I just like watching all you OS zealots get all mad about it.

Let's never speak of it again. Smile

Holy crap, I almost missed out on an OS zealot convention!?! Why didn't someone tell me?

OS X, the OS worth paying for! Your not-Bu... er, not-Windows candidate! Big Grin

(And in a nod to Lithos, there is also Linux, the Ralph Nader of operating systems.)
