Well, since I've got access to a plethora of Macs and all, it seemed kind of pointless.
However, OSx86 Project would be a good starting point. |

i dont really need help or anything.... i was just wondering if anyone on the WGB had done it.
i'm about fed up with my tablet pc. i mean, i love the tablet aspect, but Windows sucks it. plus toshiba decided to load a ton of crap on it, so when it boots, its already 80+ threads strong. and i have no idea whats important to the functionality. its to the point where installing OSX and writing my own tablet functionality sounds easier than trying to hunt down a bunch of rouge processes.... *************************************************** * MEB_Registered: 20122002 |

"Okay, I guess we'd better start using the new Microsoft OS: Vista. You'll need to get familiar with it for migration."
"Um, yeah..." "Yeah, I'm gonna have to ask you to go ahead and get a copy and install it." ***Later that day*** *Talking to the vendor* "So, I need a license and a media kit for Windows Vista..." "Which one?" "Which one, what?" "Which Vista?" "The Microsoft one, Vista, Windows Vista." "Uh huh, well, there's Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, and Windows Vista Ultimate." "Wha? Uh, okay, Windows. Vista. Uh, Business." "Great, hon. But there's a problem. We can sell you the license, but we don't have the media kits, we won't have them until April." "... *&%$#@!" "Now, sir..." "How the blankety-blank am I supposed to install it if you don't have the media?" "Oh, well, we set up a download for you." "ISO images?" "No, we don't have images" "?" Yadayadayada. |

Did I mention it takes like six hours to install Windows Vista Business and then upgrade it to Windows Vista Enterprise?
Did you know you have to partition your hard drive in order to use BitLocker? Well you do. Our fastest notebook rates a "2" on the Windows Vista "Experience" scale. Meanwhile, I'm getting a Mac for work. Finally. |

OK, it's a tablet, but how many threads are needed for running make-up simulations? ________________________ differently mediated |

So Vista's BitLocker drive encryption scheme requires a TPM version 1.2. Dammit! My test notebook (Dell Latitude D610) only has version 1.1. Just a tick! Ah, the old trick-the-OS-into-working-without-the-required-hardware trick! Oh wait! Crap. Whaddaya mean I can't use teh 'puter without a USB drive...?
Innovation. You gotta love it! |

I'm so not making the switch. If Vista follows the general windows route, it's not going to work properly until after a couple months of continues updates anyway.

next week my partner's throwing a karaoke party. his plan is to connect the tv to the computer as well as having the monitor running, so there's a screen for the audience and one for the karaoker.
he's bought a supervideo (or whatever the damn thing's called) cable, which plugs in fine to both tv and computer. but the image, which is perfectly fine on the monitor, is really jumpy on the tv. he's asked some karaoke freaks on some forum about it, they've told him it's about the computer not having enough grunt but haven't explained why there's enough grunt for the monitor but not the tv so he's not sure whether they've listened to the whole story. is the grunt factor the most likely answer? |

Does your PC have a TV-Out connection?
Haven't heard of the cable you mentioned. The currents used as signal for both the TV and the PC monitor are tiny. Can't imagine the grunt factor being correct. Not that I'm that up onnit. |

it must have a tv-out, because he has managed to get em to connect, it's just the vids aren't running smoothly on the tv, when they are on the monitor.

Hmmmmmm....
Right click on the desktop and choose properties. Then, settings. See if there's a choice that will work under display. |

Thinking about it, tho, my kids tried hooking their computer to a TV and things were okay except in games where the frame-rate suffered.
The games dropped frames to where it was tough playing. |

see that may be it. these are homemade karaoke files, with all these pics and words and dots as well as the music itself.

That's probably what the karaoke-heads meant by "grunt": not physical, electrical power, but processing power to handle both screens at once with video playing.
On the other hand, if he's just set it up so the same thing is being displayed on both screens (i.e. everything you do on the computer also displays on the TV screen), that sounds unlikely. Sorry I can't be more help... |

We didn't think of advising to drink a lot.
Have to remember that one. It's obviously huge mojo. |
