read that as

Was wondering what kind of system that would be.

anyone else use Microsoft Office OneNote? it's really bugging the hell out of me, sometimes when I am inputting words and notes and equations, it autoformats them and moves what I just drew. totally undesirable behavior. where's the goddamn off button?!?!?!?!

same problem really, i figured the linux geeks would be on top of it, lots of interesting kernel topics to gleen info from.......

i figure the major hurdle is Apple having dropped support of serial tablet devices in OSX....

At the risk of sounding completely clueless..

what does it mean when everything on my monitor looks like it's being filtered through the BSOD? (That is, all text that should be black is now IBM blue, and everything else has a blue-ish tint to it).

I was just innocently browsing some news stories on MSN, and all the sudden *poof*! My display went all weird. I'm pretty sure I didn't click on anything...I've never seen anything like this before so before I call the IT guys (since we don't have any in-house and talking to them over the phone is usually a fruitless exercise), I thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks!

How old is your computer's monitor? It could be failing.

Assuming you are using a CRT (one of those big clunky TV-set-like monitors, as opposed to a relatively slim flat one), this probably means the "red" gun is gone in your monitor.

It's probably a hardware thing, and my experience is that it was cheaper to get a new monitor than try and get it fixed. YMMV.

i agree with colin..... did you try unplugging it all? you may also want to try fiddling with the display's manual control menu to test the guns.....

If it is indeed an elderly monitor, let us not forget the gentle restorative smack upside the casing. And conditions may vary with how warmed up the components are. Sometimes if you leave it on for a good long while (couple hours; don't forget to disable energy saver kind-of-thing) the last gun may "wake up". In which case, you can just leave the thing on 24/7 whilst you shop/save for a new one...

If you have to buy a new monitor these days it probably makes the most sense to buy LCD, btw. I generally get Dell's after hunting for coupons on dealmac.com. If possible try and shop Dell Small Business rather than Dell Home. I hear bad things about tech support and RMAs from Dell Home.

we need to find an open source program to either write a basic pdf or to convert maybe a basic word doc to pdf. or should we just buy acrobat or something? is there a free trial for acrobat?

www.versiontracker.com

Anything2pdf looks like a likely candidate. But I don't know if it works, I have a Mac.

How about something that prints a word doc to PDF. Would that work?

PDF Creator

EDIT: Oops, I misread and thought Hassa was pointing to Mac solution. Either one looks workable.

There is a free online service where you upload your word doc and they e-mail you the pdf a few seconds later. {googling...}

http://www.pdfonline.com/ (heh, guessable)

can't you just use the scenes features of the dvd to skip the scene when it comes up? Or are you not going to watch it with him?

I'll defo try, but won't really find time for a few days yet... anyone tried it?

I haven't used the movie maker but I use Virtual Dub all the time (both the original and MPG version) and it's nice video editing software.

Yeah, Virtual Dub is good and easy and free. Haven't played with the MS product but it might get the job done too.
