It depends on the software used to create it. .DOC would be a possibility. Old word processors (like WordStar or WordPerfect) used .DOC for extension, same one still in use by MS Word. Couldn't it be saved as an image? If so, it could be any image format extension... .TIF, .GIF, .JPG, there are hundreds of old and obscure ones. This message has been edited. CAD drawings use the extension .dwg but I am not sure how far back that goes.

What do you think Mitubishi Heavy Industries would have used in 1994-1995?

Autodesk AutoCAD 13.
Huh, one little google. It's interesting to note that the industry leader then is the industry leader now (well, all the drawings we get in are in Autodesk compatible format). _____________________________________ ::swoon:: |

Funny. I'd have thought some in-house, propietary application, or high-end stuff like Evans&Sutherland.
Of course, an absolute answer could be found by researching MHI's story. You know, UD, the kind of stuff novelist do all the time : ) |

Proprietary app for building blueprints? for machinery yes, but I wouldn't expect so for buildings? of course I hear blueprints/schematics and I think buildings. And maybe he's talking not-buildings.
Do corporate architects use proprietary apps? *mind is blown* ETA: looking up E&S, wow. Not for the usual sort of building. (I work in building trades, we review drawings for all kinds of buildings, including industrial facilities, for building and fire codes). _____________________________________ ::swoon:: |

That's the point, UD's question doesn't specify if his hypothetical file is for some small machinery piece, building, or whole power plant. A basic 2D spec drawing, or a full 3D model of a whole plant?
Some companies use propietary additions to commercial software, and it's expected for a big corp to have in-house apps, if not for the low rank of designers, for the high-end visualization and research areas. But all this speculation should be done by UD... |

I've done a whole fuck of a lot of research for this thing. But I don't know where to begin on something like this.... Well, I do now. But Ididn't before. --- "I knew their tastes were very different and because the french like Dick a lot." -W.G. |

It's for a machine that is very large and could be mistaken, by someone crazy, for a Tesla geoelectromagnetic weapon. --- "I knew their tastes were very different and because the french like Dick a lot." -W.G. |

Turned out it was Sunbelt Personal Firewall that was the issue. I'd been trying various things, but last night and this morning whatever was happening was keeping me out of here! Unacceptable, so I got serious with the head-scratching and thinking about what was between the browsers and the sites they were having trouble contacting. I d/led Kerio firewall instead, switched over and all is sunshine and puppies. So, you know, maybe avoid Sunbelt. ________________________ differently mediated |

For real? Or are you being facetious? It's actually not a weapon or anything, but some poeple think it is. In a Pynchon-esque way. If it works. --- "I knew their tastes were very different and because the french like Dick a lot." -W.G. |

not really asking for assistance, just thought i'd post about my OSX86 issues...
upgraded the BIOS on the tablet yesterday. this was really for my own amusement, as whilst taking the machine apart I noticed numerous references to upgrading the processor on the web. most of it was speculation that once the unit was made available, such an upgrade would be possible if Toshiba released BIOS updates. well, they issued a few at Intel's requests and also for better Vista compatibility. I thought it might be fun to do the BIOS install and see what happens. one effect was after I booted into OSX by accident, i left it on and started messing with it. usually after a few minutes the system thinks the processors are too hot or something and the whole thing shuts down. didn't happen this time. in fact it ran all night, seemingly without issues. of course now it's messed up because i tried installing some new software which required a reboot, and the stupid thing just can't seem to open itself up again.... *************************************************** * MEB_Registered: 20122002 |

That's the funny thing. Sometime I'm consciously facetious, but later on I realize that I had read the information somewhere and forgot about it. |

Mine is a g4.
I'm not sure, but thanks. I've officially given up til the morn. Thanks though. I didn't even think of iSync... Der! As far as I'm concerned, I prefer silent vice to ostentatious virtue. -Albert Einstein |

In theory, go into System Prefs->Bluetooth and add a new phone device. You'll need to navigate through whatever menus on the Nokia to make it accessible--my Razor only lasts for 60 seconds, during which point you need to scan up the phone from the iBook and then punch in some code from the iBook onto the phone. Best o' luck! |

Sorry I mean a desktop, rather than laptop. If you have built-in bluetooth it should be doable.
iSync doesn't recognize all models, but you can hack a line in the library to add yours based on a similar one, if yours isn't on the list (even I did it, so it's not hard). Then you just make sure your phone bluetooth is on and set as discoverable, then you start iSync and let it search for it. You will probably have to confirm a few things on whichever thing back and forth, then it will add you calendar and address book and such. IMPORTANT! You have to tick a little box in preferences to reset sync. People who know suggest you backup your calendar and address book before doing this by clicking the backup in each app's File menu. It takes a little while but that makes the computer's info go to the phone. If you want the phone data to go to the computer, then un-tick that reset thing. If you need to hack a phone model, go to Howardforums.com and search, there's lots of good info there. If you just want to transfer photos or something then turn on the bluetooth and bluetooth file transfer on the computer, turn on the bluetooth on the phone, and then click the send option on your files and follow the steps of confirming the computer etc. You'll get a confirmation screen on the computer (well, I do). Actually these steps are what they are on my Sammy, I don't remember exactly the steps on my Nokia cause I only used it a few weeks until I got the Samsung, but I don't think it's too different. _____________________________________ ::swoon:: |
