In Trafalgar sqare today there is a poutine stand and a Tim Horton's concession, so we had a healthy Canadian dinner. Except Jian Ghomeshi confessed from the stage that it wasn't real poutine, as the cheese curds had been held up at Heathrow, so someone had to do an emergency supermarket run for plain old cheddar.

Perhaps the curds were denied leave to remain.

Pastrami!

Or Hebrew ham, as some people call.

REally, never heard that one. I think Canadians call it smoked beef, but not sure about it, maybe smoked brisket?

It's salted and smoked. It's practically ham. Kosher ham.

I've been feasting on watermelon for a couple of weeks now. Lately I've been juicing them.

But disappointment was had by all this evening when I set two porterhouse-sized "watermelon steaks" onto the dining table next to big salads.

OK, actually...they weren't that bad (think oven roasted tomatoes topped with feta). But I learned my lesson. Next time, they'll be a side dish.

Also, when experimenting with something entirely new...make certain there are sandwich fixins handy.

OMG easy so tasty salad, cubed seedless watermelon, cubed feta (around 2 or 3 to 1, melon to cheese, and make sure the cheese is good and salty), and lightly dress with balsamic vinegar.

Whatever crap I can lay my hands on, of late. Been depressed and stressed lately and my reaction is to go to a convenience store and buy lots of sugared crap to gorge on. Tonight i bought this godawful sausage biscuit and halfway through eating it I realized that I'm a complete moron who needs to learn better ways to vent his frustration.

Irish snags. I can tell they're Irish 'cause they're thick.

Disappointedly, they're also kind bland. Pork, pig guts and not much else. Even a reduction of beef stock and cab sav didn't do much.

Ah, well.

Spuds were nice.
