"Have a good trust today, you higher men, you stouthearted ones, you openhearted ones! And keep your reasons secret! For this today is the mob's.

"What the mob once learned to believe without reasons -- who could overthrow that with reasons?

"And in the market place one convinces with gestures. But reasons make the mob mistrustful.

"And if truth was victorious for once, then ask yourself with good mistrust: 'What strong error fought for it?'

"Beware of the scholars! They hate you, for they are sterile. They have cold, dried-up eyes; before them every bird lies unplumed.

"Such men boast that they do not lie: but the inability to lie is far from the love of truth. Beware!

"Freedom from fever is not yet knowledge by any means! I do not believe chilled spirits. Whoever is unable to lie does not know what truth is."

--Thus Spoke Zarathustra, 1883-1892.

That's actually me quoting Dave Chapelle quoting Rick James(I am assuming that at some point in his life Rick James said "I'm Rick James Bitch") so if you continue the circle we are going to have an "ambiguity in the box" problem.
Whatever the hell that means.

I agree, meme-bers of this Board have a certain propensity to come up with ideas, quotes and turns of phrase at an astonishing rate. I fear the Board is tempted to become overly self-referencial lately. Though we kicketh ass and taketh names we must remain humble as the pragmatic Daedalus ilst we melt our waxen wings.

and it's a plague too. it's sort of hard to not add to all the meta-threads, but then again, I'm a completist.

bartletts can kiss my ass. It was just a topic name that most people would get without blatantly calling the thread 'quotes'

correct, that was what I was trying to imply.

Granted, I don't think I had an "interest in seeing a thread that exposed the best and brightest wit of the WGB. "

For me it was more of a "wow that was the greatest, most happy-making thing anyone's said in ages. And there's another one! And I couldn't have 'I jerked off to this thread' in addition to my current sig [I think having multiple sigs is tasteless << watch metro and whoever it was that had 'what about planetary something-er-other' kick my ass] basically I wanted to see those words appearing more often on the board.

It was a completist collector compulsion.

I'm honestly worried that this thread will prompt us all to start trying to think of particularly impactful things to say, so that we may appear here, and our glory will shine forever.

He got tired of his old sig, and changed it.

Uh, actually that was me that had the two sigs for a day. It was a quote from Bruce Sterling "What about planetary insolvency"?
I thought it was funny.

myth, I thought it was funny too. It just confused me the first time I saw it because I didn't realize it was a sig and it was totally out of context.
