From experience, iTunes is not hugely happy about external drives which aren't set up to work as an iTunes server (which my next one will be). Fairly regularly iTunes loses the library, and I have to re-add the whole folder (files - add folder to library) - which is pretty painful with nearly 6000 tracks!! But changing where iTunes looks is pretty painless - its in options somewhere (not got iTunes in front of me).
If you add music from more than one computer (our external drive is networked so both me and Krad can access it), you will need to re-add the folder to the library, which is also a pain!
I did change the where it looks, but it isn't actually looking there. I will have to see if there's a way to square it without going through track-by-track, which would be nearly as annoying as reloading everything again >_< Don't know WHY I deleted the original folder before I was sure it was working properly [I have atm two or three complete copies, just not the original one--so I can't revert properly).

Why does one believe the "intuitive! easy to use!" hype instead of RTFM, I wonder?

It probably is looking there.. try.. file, add folder to library, and then browse to that folder.. ok.. Like I say, it tends to lose the library on external drives.. so, it see's the music but doesn't list it!

Need to dash off right now.. but I'll be home in around 2 1/2 hours and can help more then if needs be

And I have to drive to my cousins funeral tomorrow, 2 hours from home, in the loan car.. I want my nice automatic back.

Plus, its costing em a small fortune in petrol.. they're driving around 30 miles a day testing it, and I'm driving 50 miles a day to / from work.. double petrol usage. Grrrr

30 miles a day to TEST it? Do you trust these people? I have never heard of having to do that must test driving on anything.

This week is really starting to suck. Me and the gf are taking a "week off" at my request. My fault, cliched as it is I have developed commitment-phobia.

Also my building is being re-roofed so I wake every day to the sound of people walking on the roof, hammering, and various other roofing related noises.

The gunfire around us makes it hard to hear. But the human voice is different from other sounds. It can be heard over noises that bury everything else. Even when it's not shouting. Even when it's just a whisper. Even the lowest whisper can be heard - -over armies... when it's telling the truth.

They need to do extended driving tests as the, what I thought was fairly minor, fault only occurs after its been driven for a while.

Ouch. I hope the week makes you clearer as to what you want.. didn't you recently go through a fairly crappy break up?? maybe some bruises are still a bit tender?

Practiced my four finger tapping on my Warlock to prepare for the next Junk Magic track recording. First time I've had blisters on my right hand fingertips. Buckethead wins, in case it remains unobvious.

(missed this earlier)

I will have a few hours later on to figure it out and read some more instructions. It lists everything with a little exclamation next to it, and says it can't find them when I click to play. Then it offers me the option to find it, and I do that, then it plays fine and the exclamation goes away. But it's set to look where it's looking/not looking. I don't know.

More reading to do. Otherwise it's 5000-odd more iterations of however many clicks, ugh.

Thanks for the offer in any case.

Definately give the add folder trick a try. There is add file, and add folder, so make sure you choose the right one (mistake I have made in the past!). Using iTunes like this can take some babying!

[1] Mac or Windows machine? If it's Mac, your drive arrived formatted for Windows, which is highly unimpressive to iTunes for Mac. Tends to bug out. Back up your stuff, go into Disk Utility and reformat the new drive HFS+ Journaled. Readd stuff back onto HD again.

[2] Quit iTunes. Unmount the drive. Remount the drive and wait until it's fully available. Relaunch iTunes.

Hopefully one of those? Otherwise, google for scripts to relink missing files in iTunes. There has to be one!

phone is ringing off the hook this morning. thankfully, not my problem.

just passed 8am. had moment of total fatigue when i left the house this morning. but not as bad as i have been the last couple of mornings.

last night i took it easy. instead of going to see the young gods for the first time since 1995, i sat in. took abusive phone calls from norway, and read a book.

About to leave for my cousins funeral.. Hellish journey and I have no spatial awareness to try and work out a better route on a map. Typical woman in that regard. Gonna take about 3 hours to travel 30 miles. Eurgh.

sounds grim. hope it goes smoothly.

i think my parents have decided that travelling back from portugal for a funeral in basingstoke next week is going to be too expensive. sounds like it could cost twice the price of the 7 weeks holiday they are on.

Yesterday, I told Mrs GL that there's a new guy on the WGB, who's working at the South Pole.

I said : "You know... if I was single, that's one of the things I'd want to do."

She replied : "Whaaaat? And what about me, you selfish prick? Let's go together! Don't you think they need psychiatric nurses over there?"

Damn! I love her.

In other news, we can't afford buying a new tv this month.

Also, Mrs GL found found that Werner Schab (whoever he is) looks like our Digitalprimate on this picture :

Before Nov '08 at any rate. Big Grin

Dammit, today I got bad news on the trusty mountain bike steed. I need new bushings, but since it is an 8-year old mountain bike (apparently mountain bikes and computers age at about the same speed), there are no more bushing kits to be bought from Diamondback. Now they want to offer me a screaming deal ($1600 vs $3000) on a new '07 Mission 3, but that's a lot more than the $50 I had been anticipating spending.

And sadly, some research on the intarweb has lead nowhere. I was seriously hoping someone had already figured out who was making the bushings for DB and where I could order them, but no luck so far...
