If you don't mind a commute, I think Tokyo's a lot cheaper than New York City; at least it was for me. I think its reputation for being so expensive is from the bubble years.

However, it's probably not the best place to go set up a love nest unless one of you is a citizen or has a good job there.

Football: we lost, 5-2. Well beaten as we gave away 2 open goals trying to break forward. Chilly, but a good run out for me. I still feel a bit bummed though. I fucken hate losing.

Well, the flamepoint cat is congested again, so I'm about to hustle out of work and try and get him inspected and vaccinated right now instead of next week.

I found out a friend of mine had a heart attack last week,

He is younger than I am but from the picture you can tell he is not in the best of health. He left the hospital. Lets see if he cuts out the whiskey, cigarettes, god knows what else he is doing.

*raises hand*

Been through 7 in the last year (although luckily the last two were under road hazard warranty). Yoko's are indeed spendy! ($300 a pop for Advans for the Evo, in fact.) I ended up going with BFG g-force KDW's to replace them for a mere $850 or so.

And the cat apparently is just a little bit stuffed up, but no lung congestion so he's fine. Hurray! Got him his vaccinations and he's home and happy.

Hope your friend recovers well, Edit!

I baked two Guinness gingerbread cakes, one for a birthday on Thursday, and one to give to my next-door neighbours as thanks for keeping my scooter in their garage while I'm out of town over Christmas.

Arrg. Just got thrown off the web after writing a rant about Chris Dobb's efforts to save our constitution. Far more eloquent than this little note. This consumed me yesterday and part of today. We only gained breathing room to organize for Jan. when the bill will come up for a vote again. This coup d' taut (sp? not looking up and know it's incorrect) is trying to ramrod Big Brother over here and I am fucking pissed. Which is another reason why I don't really do much posting.

Just sayin'. Meh, of the first magnitude

Bravus has explained the situation well... the Yokos were excellent and amazingly grippy tires. It was all the damn nail holes that did them in.

By "nails" do you mean "spike strips"?

Yesterday, I fulfilled my Annual National Australian Duty by informing an American backpacker about the dangers of Drop Bears.

I had a lie in. Yay. I slept till 8:45 for the first time in ages.
Its injection day at the pain clinic, which since it has been 5 weeks since last jabs, not the usual 3, its a very very welcome day. Jabs followed by accupuncture to control the wierd sensations I get on my scalp and the skin on my back..

Hope your friend is OK edit..

Hey, at least someone's doing something. Round of applause for Mr Dodd.

So - any theories on what the fuck Harry Reid thinks he's doing? And for whom?

Compared to Tokyo, nah.. Compared to everywhere else?? Yes! *laughing*

Actually, the only city in the world more expensive than London is Moscow (2007 stats). That said, one can still make a go of it. We are basically on a single income at this point and doing fine. It depends on how thrifty/spoiled you are and what you expect out of life.

Some say poverty is romantique. Fuck that.

And, as an American, it would probably be harder for you to get a work visa here than in Belguim, though, obviously, Wanderer has teh freedom to live and work here under the EU stuff..

Now this is a bigger problem. I can't understate how agonizing immigration was in terms of life security. Getting a work permit to begin with was a stressful nightmare (because most people don't want to take you on and sponsor it), and then once you have it you are tied to that crap job forever until you find some other kind soul who will sponsor a transfer. I hated it. It quickened my marital ambitions in short order, and now it is all sorted out forevs.

Americans seem to grow up with the impression that everyone wants us all over the world, and that we can go anywhere. The truth is, in Europe with regards to your passport: if it's not EU, it's crap. This was a stiff dram for me to swallow, and also explains why I am now dual national.

Anyway, it can be sorted, I'm just preaching gospel. To echo some earlier advice: NEVER tell the immigrations officer that you are over here visiting your EU boyf. And to this day, my husband is forbidden to tell US immgrations that he's married to a USian, otherwise they'll haul him up for trying to duck into the country (yeah right. as if) sans visa.
