Also posted my Cross pen to Cross to exchange it.. Getting a Chrome Apogee with a fine nib.

What are you exchanging?

I was in Peter Jones yesterday, and I noted how many Cross Pens they have for sale. They seemed quite expensive to me. (Although not as expensive as the Mont Blanc's.) In the States a Chrome Apogee is about US$100 which is about £45.

A Century II, so will have to pay a bit extra. Though, all the US sites I have looked at have Apogee's at $150+.. It all depends on what it is made out of.

I have a nerve problem in my arm, and the Century II is just too narrow to be comfotable for me. And it cme with a medium nib, which I found caused the ink to bleed on norma paper too much.

Also bought a cheap (£7.99) parker fountain pen at Staples to keep in my work pencil case, plus blue/black ink. I have to say, it writes really nicely!

I need to head somewhere with a good ink selection for when I get the Cross pen back. I'm guessing somewhere like Peter Jones or Selfridges would be a good place to start.

Parker's are excellent pens.

Keep in mind, though, if you have something other than a Parker, don't use Parker ink in it. Parker's Quink is slightly corrosive, designed to help clean the pen as it writes. Other maker's pens aren't designed to work with this self-cleaning ink, and will just...corrode. (Admittedly, we're in a timeframe measured in years, but still.)

And MrsK! I found a jar of Golden Syrup in the pantry!

With the glass beads hanging in the doorway, does the room look too much like a Turkish bordello? Smile

Hee!
Well, the room has ORANGE curtains and a PURPLE carpet, so it looks more like "she couldn't make up her goddamn mind" than anything else.

Ah, I didn't know that.. I should have said I had bought ink cartridges though.. My new job means I'll be quite mboile in where I am working each day, so cartridges much much easier to transporting in a pencil case!

And now I want crumpets and golden syrup!

I was in the new John Lewis in Cambridge today and noticed the same thing...in fact all they seemed to have was MBs or Cross. Pleh pleh pleh.

Top three pens that I currently do not own but hope to change that status some day:
3) Lamy 2000
2) Nakaya lacquer jobbie in blue or green
1) Conway Stewart 100 in White Whirl which reminds me exactly of these hairsticks I used to use about a decade ago.

I could also do the top three pens I *do* own but I should really take this to the pen/stationery thread already.

You can do much better than the dept. stores in London for ink and pen gewgaws. In fact, starting at The Pen Shop (it's a chain, branches on Regent Street and elsewhere) or Penfriend will lead you to a dizzying array of choices. And if that isn't enough for you, a glance at the selection of inks at the Writing Desk will make your head explode. Also you might not necessarily have to stick with cartridges -- I thought that but I have switched to bottles and as long as I have my Sunday night ink-top-up ritual, I've never even come close to running dry. (This is in my main pen, a Pelikan.)

Oh, and that bit about Quink being corrosive? Mere myth. I use it in many of my pens because it's cheap and easy to find. Otherwise I use Aurora black or Noodler's navajo (both from the Writing Desk).

Yes, hi, I'm a fountain pen spod.

Today we went to Cambridge where I purchased various and sundry books upon the grand subject of physics from the annual clearance tables of the Cambridge University Press Shoppe of Horreurs. I also looked for new shiny pens and paper, but none of discernment were to be had.

It wasn't my choice, but a Christmas gift.. I had actually asked for a Parker *L*

Fantastic!! Thankyou! the cross has the manual ink thingymajig, so I plan on using ink with that. Need to find out what my colour is if that makes sense.. Like the blue black in the parker though. Think cartridges will just be mch easier at work.. will be hot desking (between different buildings!) so ease of transport is paramount!

I need your paper reccomendations too!! I am dedicating 2008 to becoming stationary geek *laughing*

I was thinking of buying Cross pens when I return to the States and sending them to people here in the UK.

In general, when I do the maths, I'm amazed at what things cost here. I have to remind myself to not think in dollars, else I'll go mad.

I made my bookstore crawl today. I can spend days in Foyles. I also scored some Medlar Jelly, but no wine.

I've heard that complaint before. Cross pens seem to have narrow barrels. And the chrome body seems to make it harder to hold.

Funny, I'm using a Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pen. I received it as a 'freebie' with an ink order before I left the States. I quite like it. And, I've had to ask for it back twice this past week after lending it out. It only cost £1 in the States (if I'd paid for it).

A day-trip to Madrid, to celebrate my wife's birthday by shopping, eating and checking out the new Prado building. Now we are exhausted, but it was worth it.

Wow. Just came close to discovering the hard way why you don't store NiMH batteries in your pocket with a bunch of other metal objects! Luckily I figured out *before* my pants caught fire. Eek

Colin is a lot like Santa, always watching to see if you are being naughty.

I got the keys to my new apartment today. Went to check it out and start moving some things in. I am doing a slow move, over the next couple of weeks. It is smaller than anyplace I have ever lived in but since I am ditching a lot of my crap it should fit fine.

Did some work. From bed, in my Christmas PJs. For time-and-a-half.

I finished the first edit of the first draft of my novel.

I guess that makes it a second draft.

I need to do a lot of backfill yet though.

I shaved 170 pages, take that, Gordon Lish!
