the uber-modern, ever-so-advanced front-loading computerized washing machine has broken down. again.
not good, to say the least.
trekking off now with lil sister #3 to take laundry to the laundromat now.
there are some very unhappy (very unhappy) parental units around this house.
stupid technologically advanced machines that break inexplicably...

I read Colin's latest post today.

The ending was unexpected, I really liked his innovative use of the period.

Anyone else have to Google 'nopal'?

I think nopal is just a more regional thing that people in Mexico and many parts of America are familiar with.

Speaking of regional understanding, I was reading some more about wombats, which I have never actually seen, and I heard they are sometimes kept as pets apparently due to either their good temper and/or stupidity. My question for those in Australia is are they ever eaten and if so how are they prepared?

Yes, Gromit, though if I'd only really thought about it, I could have guessed correctly. Never tasted it, though. Hmm, think I'll discuss this with the cooks and see if they eat nopales. Maybe they can bring me a taste, someday.

That chicken and that spice sound wonderful, fuldog.

I met a woman tonight at work who sported jewelry, one of which was a gem made of the carbon of her dead mother. It looked 1/8-1/4th of an inch and was slightly greyish diamondish. I've read about this and was struck by the thought you could keep your beloved(s)on your person. I'm not sure what I think about this, though her mom looked quite pretty. She also wore tanzinite, which I just love. She was a strange woman. Does this reaction make me strange, too? Or, even stranger?

i'm expected to have two tenders ready for noon for old department, and have new office look as though i've been here for months for parent company visitors by noon. um. as you do.

at home, having fly trouble. the bastards are getting everywhere. been like that last few nights. when it was one or two it wasn't a big deal. but after 4-5 per room and one crawling around my mug, i went on warpath. the slaughter is legendary! no mercy! been told certain candles will do the job, need to look into it.

There are also nasty smelling sprays that decimate. Probably toxic, too. Maybe if you opened the windows, sprayed and fled for a time?

problem is its when i open the window that the buggers get in. or the door. cat sits and looks out and takes ages to decide what she is going to do. though, actually found a couple crawling under the front door from the porch! so making sure i keep porch closed.

Can you not get a screened door, and screens for your windows? Um, and maybe a screen flap for the porch?

its not usually a problem, just seems to be a one off at the moment. probably caused by the weather. i'll see how it goes long term, if its a bigger problem then i'll look at measures.

BZZzzzz....bzzzz...ok.

Oh, and I am thinking you must not have a problem with mosquitoes, if you don't have screens. Is this possible?

No! I heard about the gem thing, too and decided that when my cat dies, he's going to be turned into some jewelry. I love this idea. It's way more fun than spreading ashes over the ocean and it's something you can pass on to someone else when you die.

And yay for tanzanite! I love jewelry.

no mosquitoes. our only problem is big fat lazy house flies. and the occasional slug.
and we barely get enough warm days a year to worry about things like opening windows and screens.

thats meru's kitty you are thinking of,
mine doesn't get any marshmallows...
though she has been fussy lately,
adds marshmallows to shopping list.
but most of them are above her level of sight,
and she is more content to eat and sleep.
she is getting old.
