Yup-- you are more Danish than my Danish friends -- in my mind :-) and the blonde look helps

Dammit - no root fixing tonight!

I'm so old I mistook the packaging on my anti-wrinkle cream for my hair dye!!

I'm all out - now to decide if I want to keep going with the color I have, or change it to whatever comes on sale first. ;-)

Or perhaps pay my hairdresser for a color you can't buy in the supermarket.

Thanks, GR. Sadly, our independence now seem to rely on our fear mongering and willingness to be reactionary.

We need to repurpose this nation toward some more desirable goals and a better position of leadership in the world.

Not so long ago I'd have said that the US should get out of the leadership game but the world as a whole seems rather disappointed with us having fucked up that role so much of late. I think if we weren't assholes about it, it could be a good thing.

Some nation definitely needs to lead the way to getting a greener planet and a brighter future. I think when any nation is in a position of dominance and they get all wonky, the rest of the world kind of feels a little bit dissolute.

Watching the Boston Pops fireworks dealio I was reminded of certain ideas that really are rather fabulous about this "country" and of those which really, really aren't.

Terrorism isn't the issue that defines our time. National identity might be and terrorism is a subset of that. We'd do the world a much better service by accepting our middle age without the accompanyment of the 20 year old GF and the Porsche.

Took a bike ride around town. Oh but the white trash! Down by the ball diamonds there were thousands of hatchbacks containing millions of explosives out in the parking lot.

Police had to break up a fight. Seems one idiot's toddler had wandered out into the war zone and had been walloped by a stray zinger or zooper or some such. Guy was going from hatchback to hatchback, pickup to pickup looking to kick him somebody's ass.

I stayed out on the border. On the boundry. Cruising with my iced $5 latte from Starbucks. Brubeck thru my earphones.

Watching the police interfere with brother Darwin's good work.

First time I've been in our Starbucks. Two cute, ravishly incompetent little girls served me after much confusion.

These girls were addled by standing and breathing. When they tried to actually do something, it all just collapsed on them. I was the only customer in the store.

What size would you like?

I want a small.

Ummmm... I only know how to make a medium.

Medium it is!

With ice?

Yes. Medium iced latte with ice.

testing if I can post, my virtural memory is so scant.....
Awoke to barking little doggies as people filled the neighborhood with their cars a half block from the park, where there was shit food, horrendous off-key music, chords, and vocals off and on for hours.

Had to work, two miles north, and had a fine miniature display of fireworks. This weekend is filled with "the other." And the locals sometimes can be called the same.

Now, let's see if this shows up...
The borking is relentless, here.

Bike riding is an awesome way to reach the best firework venues! The tricky bit is not getting crushed after the fireworks when all the semi-drunk drivers try to leave at once.

I barely saw any fireworks--went to a July 4th party some friends were having and played a drinking game called "Mexican". Which had ridiculously complex rules that no one could keep track of--not even me and I was sober.

EDIT: And now two minute later I am debating if I should spend $55 on an advanced copy of Anathem or hold out for a cheaper one. These guys are ranting about how the book is in NEAR FINE condition, which I could care less about as long as the printed words inside are still legible.
